Top 20 LNH/OCC photos & nights EVER.

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On August - 7 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Call me nostalgic, but to commemorate the launch of Last Nights Hype, and the transformation of Orange County Concepts, I thought it would be an appropriate to recap the last four years of memories we have shared together. In the last four years we have published 685 blog posts (this makes 686) and this week we expect to top 17,000 event photos.

One thing we have always prided ourself on is our photography. We have had some of the greatest photographers in Orlando on staff over the past few years including (but not limited to) J. Chris Callahan, Erik Spradling, Jon Longstaff, and our current main photographer Allycrunk. We always made it a priority to provide quality edited photos, not some point and click bullshit like most of the other promotional companies are uploading. We have also always made it super simple to access photos that we took at an event, click and download, no annoying membership logins, shiiiit, you can even download them straight from our Facebook page.

As we turn the page from Orange County Concepts to Last Night’s Hype, I thought it would be fun to post what I thought are the very best photos our website has EVER published. With an archive of photos as large as ours is, (173 event galleries) this list has taken a few days to compile. I think it shows an accurate depiction of just how fucking awesome our parties were, and still are. It also serves as a history lesson on Orlando nightlife, and the trends that we started way back before some of you even had your drivers license.

#20 THE CRUNK CASTLE (CrunkRAWK House Party) 6/8/07
Photo by: TJ The Photographer (See the full gallery here)

So this might be a little embarrassing. As you may have heard, our house parties were pretty awesome. It was even mentioned in last months issue of Drink Magazine. We had a little house we called “The Crunk Castle” in East Orlando. It was not uncommon for 400 or more people to show up any given weekend and wreck the place. We always had a DJ, and often had a photographer. Keep in mind this was a HOUSE in a normal middle class neighborhood. The neighbors hated us, the cops showed up 14 times in one year, and lucky for us our out of state landlord didn’t evicted us nearly fast enough. Gunshots, stolen cars, window bashings. You name it, we saw it. The girl digging for gold in the bottom left of this photo amidst all the madness is priceless.

#19 SCOOP DE MAYO 5/3/08
Photo by: J. Chris Callahan (See the full gallery here)

The caption was added to this photo before it was politically incorrect to use “homo” or “gay” as an insult. Thanks to the NBA’s “Think B4 you speak” campaign we now know better! We also love the gay community, case in point our party at Mr. Sisters every Sunday. Seriously though, this party SUCKED. It was a block party thrown by Whats2Hot that took up the entire Scoop’s parking lot with a huge stage, and an entires day worth of entertainment. The event promised to bring well over a thousand party people. Only problem is the promoter forgot to, um, bring anybody. Now that is Not2Hot, but good for a nice laugh

#18 SOME ASSHOLE PASSES OUT IN BUSHES AT SHIT SHOW @ POUNDERS 6/21/08
Photo by: J. Chris Callahan (See the full gallery here)

No explanation needed here.

My favorite part was when they put the leaves over his head.

#17 ERIK DRAVEN’S SUPER BOWL HOUSE PARTY 2/1/09
Photo by: Colombia (See the full gallery here)

When you show your manhood to a group of ladies at a house party, a laugh is the last response you want to get. Unfortunately for our buddy King Kong this was the norm. Nice dick!

#16 LEGIT. @ DUNGEON 4/30/10
Photo by: Familiar Joe (See the full gallery here)

“You mean there was another electronic music party at Dungeon before riot?” Yes. We threw it. Unfortunately we had a shitty sound system, no lights, no CO2 canisters, and no dubstep (as in no one knew what the fuck it was yet). We also unfortunately decided to launch the party at the beginning of summer, so it was very short lived. It was long enough to raise a few eyebrows though, and next thing you know “Riot!” was born. You’re welcome, again.

#15 BARACK OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN RALLY @ AMWAY ARENA 10/20/08
Photo by: Colombia (See the full gallery here)

Yes, we even got political with it. We covered the Barack Obama rally in 2008 outside the north entrance of the soon to be demolished Amway Arena due to its historical significance. 50,000 people showed up to see the soon to be president address the city of Orlando. It was only 15 days before Obama would become the president of the United States. You can thank us for bringing him to Orlando first… (ok, you got us,  we had nothing to do with him coming.)

#14 REHAB @ POUNDERS 1/20/08
Photo by: Kapow (See the full gallery here)

So what is so special here? Another typical nightlife picture of two girls making out. Well this night was special. We PACKED this now defunct club on the east side of Orlando called Pounders on a Sunday night for a special event we did called Rehab. There was no school the next day, and we capitalized to the fullest with ice luge’s, free champagne, and bumpin’ indie electro house (before it was cool). The best part was we were able to steal Kapow for this party, who was easily the best and most popular photographer in Orlando. She shot exclusively for Pauly Crush at the time so we were very excited to have her. She made a regular UCF party look like a masterpiece. This entire album shows just how amazing her work was. In my opinion she is hands down the best photographer Orlando night life has EVER seen. Check out the full gallery from this party to see her amazingly candid shots.

#13 NIGHT TIME FOAM POOL PARTY @ JEFFERSON VILLAGE 9/5/08
Photo by: Can’t remember (See the full gallery here)

Foam parties are pretty awesome. I remember back in my Firestone days the owner said he would never do a foam party again because he would find all kinds of disgusting shit when they would clean out the foam pit. Condoms, underware, you name it, they saw it. So when you combine a pool party, with a foam party, and then do it at night and throw glow sticks out to everyone you know you are asking for some crazy shit to happen.

Kid Disco AKA Full Effect AKA Junior Diaz killed it on the decks that night and made for quite a memorable evening.

#12 BIG FU*CKIN’ HOUSE PARTY @ KINGS HOUSE 11-28-08
Photo by: Colombia (See the full gallery here)

I think this is the best DJ line-up a house party has ever seen in Orlando. With DJs Deville, Justin James, Youngheartz, Erik Draven, and myself, and hosted by the voice of Roxy/”Rage” Saturday’s Eric James. This is another multi-picture entry, because sometimes a few pictures really do tell a story. Blood on the floor, weave in the chandler, and girls pooping… sounds like my kind of shindig!

#11 PUDDING WRESTLING SHIT SHOW @ POUNDERS 9-27-08
Photo by: J. Chris Callahan (See the full gallery here)

It was supposed to be pudding wrestling, but it looked more like the results of the bathroom scene from dumb and dumber. The best part of this picture may actually be the promotions that went into this event, mainly this video.

As you can see this was an easy clean up job.

ok, upon further review this was an unrelated, not nearly as successful pudding wrestling event. Either way it is still fitting.

#10 CLINT HOUSE PARTIES PRE-CASEY ANTHONY TRIAL TESTIMONY
Photo by: Erik Spradling (See the full gallery here)

You have seen this man featured on CNN, Fox News, NBC, CBS, Lifetime, etc! Clint House has a big mouth, and we all love it. Always speaking his opinion before using his brain, he gave us LOTS of entertaining material to blog about.

Clint is busy these days fighting to give Caylee Anthony “the justice that the court system failed to give her.” He has been pushing to get Caylee’s Law on to the senate floor ever since he heard the shocking verdict that stunned the nation a few weeks ago. We have to give Clint credit for coming so far! From his days with “Whats 2 Hot“, to his stint as a Jacksonville promoter, to the Orange County Courthouse Roy Clint has always been an OCC/LNH staple. All jokes aside, we are proud of this man for taking a stand and doing the right thing.

#9 DJ dLUX SAYS “FUCK IT” AND ******** AT THE FINAL SHIT SHOW @ POUNDERS 10-5-08
Photo by: Colombia (See the full gallery here)

And like that it was all over. Pounders began to decline, so they remodeled and named the place “Octagon”. Terrible name, terrible idea. The only thing still happening in that building was our party Shit Show. The place would re-open after another remodel about a month later, but it was never the same. The vibe from Shit Show had officially taken a… shit. We came back with another party called Snatch, but by then our fun was over.

DJ dLux decided he was going out in a blaze of glory, literally. When the smoke cleared, the Shit Show was over.

#8 PENIS GRINDING ON ASS @ OCC HOUSE PARTY 10-26-08
Photo by: Colombia (See the full gallery here)

Well shit… we lost Shit Show, so I guess we decided to bring it back to our roots. Time to take it to the house! This young lady seems to have dropped something.

Oh wait, she just has a penis on her ass. Back in the heyday of Defame: Orlando, this photo was blogged with the following close-up image.

Yes I do believe that is what you think it is.

#7 DJ SERAFIN & FRIENDS AT STEREO @ ANTIGUA 1-22-09
Photos by: Joe Perri / Erik Spradling (See the full gallery here)

Special Guest DJ Serafin from Los Angeles made his Orlando debut at Stereo. He proved that asians can look good with blonde hair…

and Justin James proved he is still gay for wearing pink the 3rd time that week.

#6 TRAVIE MCCOY DJ’S AT SATURDAY/THURSDAY @ FIRESTONE
Photo by: J. Chris Callahan (See the full gallery here)

Travie McCoy is a great musician. He was good as a member of Gym Class Heroes, and not too shabby as a solo artist. He may want to be a millionaire, but he couldn’t have DJed properly if it was for a million dollars.

We watched him load up iTunes, and play a pre-recorded mix. It was a fun night though, and Travie managed to get the crowd hype during his “DJ set” at Firestone for the Warp Tour after party.

#5 STEREO BLACK OUT PARTY 5/14/09
Photo by: Erik Spradling (See the full gallery here)

I specifically remember some now well know Orlando house DJs, who were just kids playing in there bedrooms back then, telling me this party inspired them to DJ. I won’t mention any names, but they told me this party motivated them to throw their own parties, and gave them a huge desire to play for a large club audience (which they now have). We threw out 500 glow sticks, decked out Antigua with black lights, and made it cool to have glow sticks in the club again. Having your name painted on topless go-go dancers is pretty awesome, so I will gladly add this photo from that amazing event to the list.

#4 SHIT SHOW @ POUNDERS (ANY WEEK)
Photos by: J. Chris Callahan

The following screen shot of a recent Facebook comment left to me by Louie Diaz (AKA Kid Disco, Full Effect, Junior Diaz) pretty much sums up this party.

This was THE FIRST electro, house, dance party EVER in the UCF area. We were going against the grain, and playing music that these kids had NO CLUE about. Now it’s the norm…. once again you are welcome.

#3 STEVE AOKI (BEFORE HE PLAYED ALL OVER ORLANDO) AT SATURDAY/THURSDAY @ FIRESTONE 5/29/08
Photo by: J. Chris Callahan (See the full gallery here)

Steve Aoki has played in Orlando COUNTLESS times. So many times it is hard to keep track of. We are proud to say we brought him before he was a household name, and WAYYYY before he hit the Turbulence. His first appearance was in front of about 300 people in 2007 at Firestone, this night was before the crazy Steve Aoki that we all know now. He stood up on the stage playing records, and didn’t even move an inch. In his second of about fifty Orlando performances Steve served up quite a show, and brought out his crazy personality for the first time ever in Orlando. He was so wasted at one point he fell off the DJ booth, hitting his head on the stage. He blacked out for about 45 seconds, and then finally came to with a smile on his face. He resumed playing without missing a beat. This was by far one of the most memorable nights in OCC history. Being apart of the first show of its kind way before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon was something really special.

Steve also created this very awkward moment for me.

I think he may have been so drunk that he mistakenly believed he was at Mr. Sisters.

#2 SATURDAY/THURSDAY @ FIRESTONE (ANY WEEK)
Photos by: J. Chris CallahanErik Spradling, others.

S/T was an amazing party. We unfortunately were brought into the party at a very bad time creating all kinds of nightlife drama. Way too many years have passed for it to even matter anymore. I can only hope that people remember how good this party was for Orlando nightlife. Pauly Crush started a revolution, we tried to continue the movement. It felt so good to play the music I loved in front of 800-1000 people every week, and at a time when no one else in the city was doing it. S/T is a legendary party, and I don’t think anyone that experienced it could ever forget it.

#1 MÉSTER HYPÉ AKA Waka Flocka Flamingo @ EVERYWHERE 2011
Photos by: Ally Crunk

Out with the old and in with the new. We will award the #1 slot to Méster Hypé AKA Waka Flocka Flamingo because we believe the best for this website has yet to come, and that silly fucking flamingo somehow became the face of this amazing new crew. Méster Hypé, the official mascot of Last Night’s Hype has been EVERYWHERE lately. Dancing on the bar, crowd surfing, in-between your girlfriends legs, you name it he has done it. He is making a real mark on Orlando nightlife, and you can expect to see him out at the club for a long time to come. LNH is here, and we are not going anywhere for a VERY long time. So get used to our little flamingo, and if you see him out at the club give him a kiss and snap a pic with him. :)

**HONORABLE MENTIONS**

- Bry Bry’s long finger -

- Last Night’s Hype goes gay -

- Guy has sex on dance floor at bar one -

- Chris Callahan climbs an abandoned gas station billboard -

- DJ Khaled performs at Fubar’s “Blocktoberfest” -

- Justin James wears Ed Hardy -

Shout out to dLux, I told you I would get this blog up (34 revisions later). That was a nice walk down memory lane. I was going to say something about how I hope to write another one of these blogs with amazing memories in four years, but honestly by then I will be WAYYYY to old for this shit, and hopefully DJing at mega clubs in Vegas (not to mention this shit took wayyyy to long). If not you can find me back in my race car bed at Mama Dawe’s.

20 Questions w/ DJ A-Rock

Posted by dLux On August - 4 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Back like cooked crack (aye!), it’s 20 Questions. This week we are talking to the DJ that has the best shoe selection in Orlando, DJ A-Rock.

A-Rock, like our last participant, DJ Rincon, is not only DJing in Downtown Orlando, but he has taken his show on the road with traveling shows, that being the Dew Tour.

Whether its the beginning of the month at Vain, scaring people at Blue Martini on Mondays with Dubstep (or opening for Lil’ Jon, no big deal), playing a more chill vibe at Ember on Tuesdays, or his creme de la creme gig at Rok Room on the weekends, to say that he keeps himself busy is an understatement. A-Rock is also one of the DJs in Orlando keeping scratch techniques/routines in his set and for that, like Tosh, we thank you.

1. Weapons of choice? (Equipment, mixer, software)
Technic 1200′s, Rane TTM-57, Pioneer 800, Serato.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
All of them! No but seriously, I like all types of music. I try and keep it as diverse as possible. Keeps it fun.

3. Favorite producer?
Toss up between Tensnake and Louis La Roche.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
Carte Blanche – White Man On The Moon

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Let’s face it, Give Me Everything – Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo, Nayer & Afrojack is a huge. (Agreed.) Dr. Gonzo Anthem – Crookers is ridiculous.

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Man, music comes out lightning quick. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but some songs don’t even get a chance. So I’d say two songs that if people don’t know about, should check… ION – D.I.M. and TAI and Eargasm – Black Raw.

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
I got started because I saw an Incubus show back when I was 16, and watching Kid Kilmore manipulate samples into the live band sets was amazing to me. A.M. 100%. Z-Trip. X-Ecutioners. A-Trak. KLEVER. Enferno. Magic Mike. DJ NOVA.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
“Do you have that birthday song?” “Can you play something I can dance to?”

9. Where was your first weekly?
Red Coconut Club @ Citywalk.

10. Where can we find you now?
In my studio answering these questions. Haha. Ember on Tuesdays & Fridays, 1st Thursdays @ VAiN, Blue Martini Mondays, & Rok Room. Nothing against my residencies, but Rok Room Sundays is by far my favorite party. I get to play WHATEVER I want. It’s a great vibe, and the energy is always on point. I’m also out on the 2011 Dew Tour this summer. I’m also starting to play outside of Orlando a lot more so it’s been nice.

Switch!

You are an avid sneaker freak, so lets find out what kicks make the man…

11. Favorite pair if you had to choose?

MAN, I can only pick one??? Well I can’t so I’ll provide a pic of my top 5…

Dunk Haze: These mean A LOT to me. Last picture most people saw of A.M. he was throwing out the first pitch at a Mets game in New York. I came across these at the Dunk XChange earlier this year, and got a great deal on them.
Jordan III Black Cement: Quite possibly the greatest sneaker of all time
Bottom Row:
Nike Air Trainer III from DJ AM’s Collection
Nike Air Yeezy
Nike Dunk Goldenrod : I have 3 pairs. Such a great, clean, colorway.

12. Go-to pair that you’re rocking right now?
Nike Dunk Low Splatter.

13. Upcoming release you are looking forward to?
SB has been on point with some of their releases this year, from the Liberties to the Space Jams. Jordan has killed it with the Retro III releases and I’ve been lucky enough to cop em all, so I’m looking forward to the Black Cements releasing later this year.

14. Most paid for a single pair and which ones?
I had to cop my Black Cement III’s off EBAY, so I paid a lil bit for em. Luckily I received the Yeezy’s as a gift or else that would have cost some mint.

15. High tops or Low Tops?
Depends on the day, weather, fit, etc.

You can get with this, or you can get with that….

16. iPhone or Android?
iPhone allllll dayyyy. Instagram YUH!

17. Regular or V-Neck?
V-Neck, but I collect Vintage T’s so I have A LOT OF LOVE for the crew neck. LOL

18. Skinny Jeans or Baggy?
Baggy jeans just don’t look right.

19. Fitted or Snapback?
Snapbacks are in right now, but a fitted cap is timeless.

20. Any final words?
Thank You to Last Nights Hype for including me in “20 Questions”. I appreciate it 100%. If anyone wants, stay up with me on twitter @DJ_AROCK or Like http://www.facebook.com/DJAROCK1

No, thank YOU DJ A-Rock for being another great addition to 20 Questions, our weekly feature on DJs, photographers, and anyone else is Orlando making their own lane for themselves. Be sure to check out all our past entries in 20 Questions with Kid Judah, DJ Y-Not?, and DJ Rincon.

Join us next week as we feature the long-hair-don’t-care, DJ Trendkiller.

20 Questions w/ DJ Rincon

Posted by dLux On July - 26 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Yes, we’re I’m back! And this ain’t no photo album, its our continuing column of who doesn’t suck in Orlando, 20 Questions!

This week we feature the 2010 Redbull ThreeStyle Champion, DJ Rincon. I actually met him for the first time at that very competition and he was the first DJ to drop a Biggie song and really get the crowd hyped (the competition was on March 9th, the anniversary of the Notorious ones death). Rincon went on to win the competition and move on in the contest and take a trip to Miami where he would later be judged by DJ Jazzy Jeff among other big names.

Rincons versatility is very apparent in the wide array of places he holds weeklys. From 23, to Tavern On The Lake, and the newly (re)opened Zen Ultra Lounge, he is everywhere.

1. Weapons of choice?
Rane TT57, Technic 1200s, and Vinyl.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
It depends on my mood and which personality I am when I wake up. But in general I can enjoy each genre I spin equally depending on the crowd.

3. Favorite producer?
I have a few, lately I have been feeling Axwell and Bartbmore. In hip-hop I have too many to name.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
I’m one of the few that listens to talk radio, I usually tune into radio stations when they have mixshows.

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Alexandra Stan – Mr Saxobeat

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Lupe Fiasco – Word I Never Said

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
My Friend Albert who was a 50 year old disco DJ, who coached me on how to blend when I was in my early 20s.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
I really hate getting requests for Bon Jovi and Journey, But if its at a mobile gig then I really don’t care.

9. Where was your first weekly?
It was at AKA lounge for a b-boy night, It was good times. If you can DJ for breakdancers, more than likely you can handle any crowd.

10. Where can we find you now?
Wed, you can find me at club 23 on Church street, On Thursdays you can find me at the new Club Zen, On Fridays you can find me at Dragon Room, On Saturdays you can find me at Tavern On The Lake.

Switching gears…

11. You won the RedBull Threestyle DJ battle last year here in Orlando, tell me what it was like hearing your name as the winner?
I was in shock really, I remember scracthing my head when the said my name. It was one of those things I won’t forget, like the closest I ever felt to being in a movie. Other than that the only other thing I have won is the claw machine game at wallmart, I don’t really think about that night that much because I don’t want to be one of those dudes that live in the past lol

12. What would be your dream opening slot for someone or which artist would you love to act as their DJ?
I don’t really dream of opening slots, I just dream about being a headliner and having people that doubted me be my openers.

13. East Coast or West Coast 90′s hip hop? Why?
I like West Coast more, Even though I’ve only been there once, I just get a better vibe from them, they don’t tolerate any B.S., I can respect that.

14. What do you think of the Dubstep movement that is taking over Orlando? Dubstep?
There is a movement here? I think that only popular with the college crowd, because I still haven’t had anyone request any. I think its just hype, Orlando is known for jumping on bandwagons and then falling off when it hits a bump. I can respect the DJs that spin that music with good fundamentals of turntablism, they will make it when the hype is over. The other ones will end up like reggaeton DJs, playing house or like unemployed Breakbeat DJs from the 90s.

This or that…

15. Android or iPhone?
Android, because putting files and music is way more simpler than dealing with the cluster fuck mess of syncing Itunes

16. Snapback or fitted hat?
Fitted.

17. High top or Low tops?
If I’m wearing shorts, I will only wear low tops. If Im wearing pants, it doesnt matter cause I don’t rock skinny jeans… Swag.. lol.

18. Xbox or PS3?
PS3 looks better, I plan on buying one soon eventually when I have time to play video games. It will probably save me money in the long run.

19. Millennia Mall or Florida Mall?
Florida Mall if you want to see Brazilian girls with big asses. I go to Millennia Mall if I want to feel like a baller.

20. Any final words??
If anyone is reading this hit me up on these following sites, and I want to give a shot out to every DJ, if any of you want to work or build something together hit me up. I can’t really think of anything else to say I’m not much of a motivational speaker lol. (PS don’t spam me.)

We’re Comin’ Out!

Posted by dLux On July - 16 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

We want the world to know! You’ve seen the video (top right corner), you’ve seen the flyer, you’ve seen the banner above, and thats right, we are going gay (bro). Hey, Smile For Camera is doing it, so why not?

But we’re not just going anywhere, we’re going straight for the top. We’re going to the #1 Gay Club in Orlando as voted by Orlando Weekly readers just under 2 weeks ago. We’re going to that big pink building across from Hot Dog Heaven. We’re going to that building you pass by on your way to or from Dancers Royale. We’re going…to Mr. Sisters.

Join me as I, DJ dLux, play those genres you see everywhere, except better: Electro, House, little Moombahton, lots of 128 BPM dubstep sounds, and a little bit of 140 BPM dubstep sounds to top it off. Come to a club where they actually CARE about the music and DANCE their asses off. It’s not the drink specials that are packing this massive venue out…its the music, the lights, the spectacle. The epitome of a SHOW.

So that’s the music, now lets talk about lights. Tabor Visuals and I will mind fuck you all night with a light show so perfectly choreographed it will give you chills.

Gay Club or not, this place is easily one of the nicest clubs in Orlando. 6,000 square foot deck looking out onto Lake Barton, completely covered so in either rain or shine you can have one of the nicest views in the city. This is of course as you’re slamming some of the stiffest drinks in town as well. My (former) roommate Dr. Waters said that he will never drink 3 LITs from there probably for the rest of his life because they were so lethal, and this man is no lightweight.

Don’t be afraid, its only for one night. I bet your girlfriend will love it. So bring her, and tell her to bring her friends (no matter how much you hate them) and you will for sure be getting laid at the end of the night by her.

With our recent name change we are expanding our brand to all sorts of different markets and we are proud to host a party in one of Orlandos premier LGBT venues and hope to continue the already long lasting relationship we have with the venue, and the community.

So long story short: fucking be there. Its going to be awesome. Who knows, I might even play the “Nice Dick” video.

20 Questions w/ DJ Y-Not?

Posted by dLux On July - 11 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Back up in yo ass with the resurrection its 20 Questions. This week we feature the Self-Proclaimed Sandwich King himself, DJ Y-Not?.

DJ Y-Not? has been around the Orlando area for about as long as I can remember going out honestly. His extremely diverse range is really something special and his SoundCloud was actually the soundtrack to me chilling by the pool a couple weeks ago, as it has been perfect for when I first wake up and just want something on but nothing too committing. Whether its taking rare 90s acapellas and putting them over old-school soul records with ease, or scratching the absolute shit out of some battle records…dude is a beast.

Lazy Afternoon warm up 6 12 2011 by SIRYNOT

Funny story actually, when I was just starting to muster enough courage up to play in public places and felt that I had a solid mixtape to back myself up with, one of the first people I gave it to was DJ Y-Not?. I remember going to Saturday/Thursday and always finding myself glued to his sets in the den. They were everything that I listened to, that I felt everyone else should be listening to when they go out, but also sprinkled in enough music that everybody listened to, to make it all just work. He continues that with his latest party, Lazy Afternoon Sundays. I saw Klever when they brought him to Eye Spy and it was a good ass time. Chill atmosphere, incredible DJ, even more incredible smelling weed, good people, what more could you want? Work with me people.

1. Weapons of choice?
Two 1200s and a Rane 57, shout out to Sir Otto.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
I go through little phases with it where I discover and re-discover old music. Right now I’m really digging funk, boogie and disco edits. Although, I’m not sure there is demographic in Orlando that really appreciates my grown folk steelo. Oh and I’d like to go on record and say that I give EVERYTHING a chance and every genre has it’s gems. I don’t get hung up on catch words like “dubstep” and “Moombathon” though. New DJ’s get so absorbed in certain things and they miss out on many of essentials .

3. Favorite producer?
The Mizell Brothers.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
In my car, I listen to a lot of mixtapes. I don’t have an iPod hook up in my car or an ipod for that matter so I like to set it and forget it. I’ve been really enjoying Jayceeoh’s “Super 7″ mixtape series, keep all 4 of those on deck, freshness. I stay on sound-cloud grabbing LIVE mixes, the human element (fuck ups) is beautiful. With that being said some of these Ableton mixes are real creative, been bumping Breakbot “Lazy Sunday Selectah” mix. Perfect laid back summer driving soundtrack.

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
“I’m on one.”, hands down.

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Every song that was released, people don’t even have time to really digest music anymore with the volume of ish that hit’s the interwebs every day.

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
I grew up in a suburb outside of Portland Oregon and at the time, DJ’s Wicked, Bless 1, and Void we’re my biggest influences coming up. Used to go to all the hip-hop shows early to check the opening DJ set the vibe.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
Any request…I hate.

9. Where was your first weekly?
My first weekly was a Monday at Tatame in Winter Park. We used to hold it down and guzzle Saporros and Sake like it was going out of style. Around that same time I started playing Cleo’s which I’ve been in for 5+ years or so. Weekly’s can be fun but tedious.

10. Where can we find you now?
In the Streets. I’m not as busy as I would like to be these days but I just signed up for the DJcity mp3 pool and am gonna download all the top 40 electro bangers. All jokes aside I’m really focused on helping continuing to build the Lazy Afternoon series. In the past year we’ve had some heavy DJ’s come through Craze, Klever, Kon, Nu-mark, DJ Day, Questlove, Pete Rock, Rich Medina, Maseo etc. We’ve decided to hold off on keeping it going weekly for now due to Florida’s rainy season. We will be back labor day weekend with Special guest Rich Medina at substance gallery. Be sure to stay up at www.thelazyafternoon.com Got some Tampa gigs booked later this month, always fun playing in the New Jersey of Florida. Other night’s are just a Stone’s Throw away…don’t sleep! I’m definitely planning on being the old man in the club.

Switching gears….

11. You’ve been proclaimed the “Sandwich King of Orlando”, where does a King get a sandwich in this town?
Mills Market get’s my co-sign. I try to stear clear of chain restaurants when possible but I ride for Jimmy John’s due to them being open late and the bread being sweet, think they put crack in it.

12. East Coast or West Coast?
If I got to choose a coast I got to choose to the East, I live out there so don’t go there but that doesn’t mean I can’t rest in the West see some nice breast in the West, smoke some nice sess in the West. Ya’ll dudes is a mess, thinking I’m gonna stop giving Portland Oregon props.

13. Do you think Odd Future has the potential to be the next Wu-Tang Clan?
All I know is, I really hope that kid Earl comes back tho, he’s definitely the nicest out of the crew and on that note, please click this link and listen to this…

The RZA is a prophet.

14. Phillies or Dutchies?
Vaporizer. (Oh you fancy, huh?)

15. High or Low Tops?
Open toe chancletas

16. Skinny Jeans or Baggy?
Shorts!

17. You use a ton of old school soul/funk records in your set, what would you say your favorite ones are?
I’ve been collecting records for years now, it’s my favorite pass time. I love the classics from James Brown (of course), he’s the god father. Lee Fields and the Expressions released a this LP “My World” which is hands down my favorite modern Soul record. These days I’m getting deeper in the crates and it take’s a lot more to perk up my ears. I was very happy to find an O.G. VINYL pressing of Demon Fuzz’s Afreka. It’s hard to label the sound but incorporates elements of Psychedelic soul, dub heavy funk, Afro-Jazz, and acid rock, next level far out musical schitt.

18. If you could share the stage with any act, who would it be and why?
I’d sing back up vocals for George Clinton.

19. If you could change one thing about Orlando, what would it be?
The Humidity.

20. Any last words?
Don’t be a hater! Hit me on twitter @djynot

Why? Its so much fun. Big ups to DJ Y-Not? for taking part in 20 Questions. If you have never heard him live do yourself a favor and get to Cleos on a Wednesday, and bring note pads. Next weeks 20 Questions features the Red Bull Threestyle Orlando Champion, DJ Rincon.

20 Questions w/ Kid Judah

Posted by dLux On July - 2 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Since we seem to have the attention of the entire city right now, I figured lets shed some light on some of the GOOD DJs around town. This will be a new, weekly column that I will be doing shedding light on some of the present, and future stars of this city.

To kick it off I decided to go to the hottest thing in skinny jeans right now, Kid Judah. I remember this kid at a pool party as just somebody who had a beast pair of speakers and now he is one of the hottest commodities in the UCF area let alone Orlando. He has DJ’d for the likes of Currensy & Mac Miller while they were in town and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

1. Weapons of choice?
Technic 1200′s till I die playboy.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
That nu-disco/french house/disco house. That kind of music forces you to be in a good mood, and who doesn’t love to disco?

3. Favorite producer/remixer right now?
Man it’s so hard to pick one…but as of right now, probably R3hab. That dude is serious.

4. What are you listening to in your car right now?
Well my car stereo is broken actually, so nothing? I headphone it with my iPhone while I drive, and I’ve been on a serious Big Sean tip lately. (Me too brah, “A$$” is my SHIT)

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Adele – Set Fire To The Rain (Thomas Gold Remix)

6. Most slept on song of 2011?

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
I watched DJ AM videos on YouTube and Vimeo religiously (RIP). I always tried to have a DJ AM approach to mixing, with A-Trak’s style. God knows I would be the most epic DJ alive if I could successfully do that, but that’s sorta what I aimed/aiming for.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
That Walking Flacking Flame dude….Well I really hate requests in general. (PREACH!)

9. Where was your first weekly?
This brings me back to a dark time in my life. TD’s summer of ’08. Luckily, things have changed! Haha.

10. Where can we find you now?
Monday at Fubar (UCF)
Tuesday at BOSS
Wednesday at Deko
Friday at Vain (Main Room)
Saturday at Deko

Ok, now let’s switch gears…

11. Coke or Pepsi?
Coke all day.

12. Fitted or Snapback?
Snapback. Fitteds are a dying breed.

13. Blogs or Record Pools?
Blogs. WTF is a record pool??

14. Beer or Liquor? Drink of choice?
All I drink is Heineken. Oh, and warm shots of Jack, shots of American Honey (warm or cold)….aaannnd maybe some Absynthe (only on the weekdays).

15. Skinny Jeans or Baggy?
Skinny jeans. Levi or die.

16. High or Low tops?
Both. Sneakers are more precious than new born babies. I love them all.

17. V-neck or Regular?
Recently I’ve been steering away from the V, but don’t think I can’t pull off the deepest V’s in the game…I’ll go Pat Deep (shout outs to DJ Nymz).

18. Twitter or Facebook?
Facebook – if I was in middle school. Twitter all day. @kidjudah

19. iPhone or Android?
iPhone.

20. Any final words?
I got this side project I’ve been working on called Space Coast that I am super excited about. Its a hip hop project (don’t worry I’m not rapping) but I’ll be sending that to you soon. And you probably just forgot to ask, but I prefer brunettes over blondes.

Shout outs to lastnightshype.com!

Damnit, I did forget the Blonde/Brunette question! Big thanks to Kid Judah for being apart of our first 20 Questions. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled like a uncircumcised penis to Last Nights Hype for the next 20 Questions column featuring the Sandwich King of Orlando: DJ Y-Not?

Go “DJ”

Posted by dLux On June - 30 - 2011 3 COMMENTS

Disclaimer: None of this blog should be taken to heart. It is merely my observations based on what I have seen or heard presented in an extremely satirical fashion. So if I mentioned you, just thank me for the few friend requests you get or attention it brings you. Just remember, having haters means you’re obviously doing something right, even if its wrong. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

Brian Dawe recently set off a shockwave across the Book of Faces with that status update. In a matter of 40 minutes it had 40+ comments with everyone putting in their two-cents on the flat out EPIDEMIC that seems to be plaguing the Orlando nightlife scene and most likely the nation: the bad, low-balling, terrible “DJs”.

Like I said, everybody had to chime in, and while there were some good points brought out, there were a TON of stupid ones. So I am here to dissect your responses, some good, but mostly flat out terrible and tell it like it is. Thankfully, unlike most of the people with these awful responses, I have a public forum of my own, being this beautifully re-done website which is one thing they lack, to rip you apart on. If I offend you, I’m not sorry, but at least I got you paying attention and you will most likely continue to pay attention.

Lets start with DJ Frost/Firas Laurent/Bames Jond, who made a very strong point days before Dawe chimed in on the subject.

My opinion? It is very stale. Every single club has those three magic words on all their flyers (and most of the time just a Facebook event): House, Electro, Dubstep…and its always in highlighter colors. It’s not new anymore, its extremely tired. Will it go away? Probably not. Will you most likely see my name attached to one of the events? Perhaps. But that doesn’t mean I can’t admit that it’s stale. What I can do is go in there and hopefully infect you with music from those genres presented in a way that you don’t hear when you are at the other clubs.

Now, let’s take a look at some of the bad comments. We’ll start with this guy who clearly should be taken serious as a DJ because he has a pair of Beats By Dr. Dre headphones.

His point seems somewhat valid, but he typed it like a fucking idiot, used no punctuation, and the captial letter at the beginning of every word thing just reeks of stupidity so therefore it is void. Let alone him using the wrong “their” in his sentence didn’t help me take him serious. I would love to see a press pack from this guy or even a bio on him as a DJ as I’m sure it is an incredible piece of literature. Just because you have a pair of $300 headphones that aren’t even that good let alone don’t swivel, doesn’t mean we have to take you seriously. Go back to Bliss, never go outside of a 120-135 BPMs, and make sure those headphones don’t mess up that sweet mohawk.

Moving along…

That may be right, I understand that people are on a budget and might not be able to make the jump to the ever popular fruit company that Forrest Gump spoke of. I will ask this though: what famous DJ do you know that uses anything BUT an Apple? Marinate on that and let me know because it may take you a minute. Any DJ that IS using a PC eventually wants to move out of their black & white world and come over to the world of vivid color that we see on this side.

There is also an extreme downside to this because now with Apple having their App Store on all computers, that little program that is one of the seeds of this disease Brian is talking about is easily available, and free for that matter: Virtual DJ. Now anybody who downloads the app, checks Hype Machine regularly, had a bunch of stupid girls/guys at a house party dancing, who just so happens to be friends with someone at a club, feels that they deserve to have their own night and literally shit in peoples ears for 4 hours on a Friday. NEXT!

Video DJing is not that much different than regular DJing, especially on Serato. Yes, you are dealing with something visual so there is more to pay attention to and your transitions are a tad more complex but I picked it up with ease honestly. You’re still looking at the same waveforms that everyone else is so don’t act like its some big step up. There is no digging when it comes to playing videos really, you either have SmashVidz, or you don’t. I’ve seen you have gigs at Blue Martini here in Orlando and you’re doing your thing out in Tampa so no disrespect here, just clearing the air. NEXT!

The only feelings that should be hurt are that guys own. His 12 year old that he just taught how to use Virtual DJ could probably make a better mixtape cover than the ones he’s making himself. By the way, Darren DJ Trendkiller Dehler is the man and definitely respected amongst the Last Nights Hype crew just for his sheer amount of sarcasm and hatred for all the dickhead DJs in this town. NEXT!

Ryan King reminding us that low-ballers are everywhere. NEXT!

Meet part of the problem, DJ Wiplash. This guy IS one of the $50 DJs that is destroying this town. He will deny, deny, deny, but believe me, its true. He gets fucked in the ass on a weekly basis by one of the many cheapskate spots downtown, Boss. You know, the place that was suppose to have Edward Maya perform Stereo Love and it just turned out to be a scam? Yeah, them. This walking train wreck is the epitome of terrible and I have heard it from more than one DJ that has regretfully had to share a night with him. Ever wanted to the hear the Elton John song from the Lion King “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” at 12:30am just when things should be popping off? Then this is your guy. I’m not talking about the Danny Diggz remix or anything, I’m talking straight album cut. He is also apart of the you-should-take-me-seriously-because-I-have-Beats-Headphones club. Roaming through this guys pictures he can’t decide whether he wants to gel his hair or wear a hat so he just does both.

How many weeks at $50 a pop did it take you to buy that sweet snake chain bro? Or that awesome bracelet to match? Maybe it was when you were on tour with LMFAO, right? Right. NEXT!

Last but certainly not least, this guy is the one that got Dawe fired up in the first place. Meet one of the people responsible for re-opening a spot downtown that has had about a 6 month turnaround for about well, forever. Bar One is across from Jimmy Johns downtown and they use to own this DUMP out at UCF called….wait for it….wait for it…TDs! They have made their way downtown with the rest of the UCF bar owners to cut costs in every way possible, make profits and they are doing so by have a DJ play there FOR FREE at the moment. That’s right, FREE! I’m sure the caliber is just top notch over there as I’m sure the decision making process will be in management and months to come. Whoever this free DJ is, he is doomed to never make more than $50 cause he already sold himself short. I understand being hungry to get a spot but if you’re doing a free show it better be in front of guaranteed 500+ people and the networking opportunities have to be visibly there.

In conclusion, will the bullshit DJs ever go away? No. Are we ever going to be able to stop club owners from looking for the cheapest DJ possible? Hopefully. The amount of acts that are getting brought to this town as far as DJs goes has been steadily on the rise but I swear if I have to hear about Steve Aoki coming here again I’m just gonna lose it. The clubs obviously have the money to spend $15,000 on someone, so why not skim through the bullshit and maybe find a really good local DJ that you can rely on for $200 a night. Orlando needs to start building its own stars from within rather than always outsourcing. Look at the Takeovr DJs. Roxy has given their party legs and its the biggest Tuesday night in town, and about to celebrate being around for 2 years. Instead of giving up on the DJs and the party after 3 weeks because its costing you too much money, give it time to build up. There is no success without failure, and hiring a $50 DJ, let alone a Virtual DJ, will never bring you success.

Well with the re-branding of this site from OCC to Last Night’s Hype I have jumped on board. We are going to start bringing you not only the news you are used to seeing from the regulars but a bit of tech news coming in as well. The name is Zack Farrow, I’m an Orlando boy with a wealth of tech information hitting me daily and figured why not send it to you guys in a way that you can understand without having to go to UCF to get that degree.

Tonight I’m gonna give you a couple of people from around town to follow on your twitter accounts to take up some space in your timeline.

First I give you @OrlandoCemetery .  Now I know what your thinking the Orlando Cemetery right. Yes the Orlando Cemetery, the guy that runs this twitter account is the Manager of the place so not gonna lie make friends with him maybe you can make a deal when you drink to much at one of the nights we host and don’t make it out.  Seriously though the guy also runs the Orlando Archives Department so you also get usually a fact a day about Orlando. Things you would never know about The City Beautiful come from this twitter account. Always nice to hear things about the streets you drive on downtown and the people they were named after.

Next comes @DwightHoward . If you aren’t giving this guy love I will personally come down and cut you. We need to give Dweezlebert all the love and attention we can give him! For all those fans in Orlando that only show out during the playoffs, and you know who you are, if you want to still have that playoff atmosphere in Orlando we had better work to keep him here! He is the team. Period.  He is currently in a plank war with the next guy on my list but overall lets just show him some love!

@agentzeroshow comes up next. Gilbert Arenas is here in Orlando now and well while we can’t change that contract he got before he got injured we instead need to embrace him and have some faith. He has been working in the off season to get better and should be competing for a starting position on our squad. One of the main reasons to follow this guy is everyday for those NBA heads out there he posts a trivia question with the reward of a pretty crazy pair of sneakers. Now you have to respond to @thesneakerchamp in order to win, as well as have some insane reaction time, its always fun learning something new from him. Now that i sent that trivia plug he also seems to be a pretty cool guy.

Last but not least follow us @LastNightsHype and myself at @farrowzachary! I’m out bitches!

MySpace sold for Jack Shit.

Posted by dLux On June - 29 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The website that changed the internet forever, MySpace, was sold today for less than what you could win playing Power Ball.

Specific Media purchased Tom’s former home for $35 million bucks. The CEO, Mike Jones (Who?), will be resigning from the company (although he can be reached at 281-330-8004 on the low) after a bunch of pointless lay-offs are done and the transitional period is over.

MySpace was purchased by NewsCorp in 2005 for fucking $580 million dollars!! A mere 6 years later it could have been purchased by any celebrity on the planet let alone anybody who ran a marijuana dispensary in California. They had announced they wanted to sell the company back in February and were looking to get $100 million out of it. Great job guys! 35% aint bad…………right?

TITTIES POPPING OUT ON LIVE TV?!

Posted by dLux On June - 27 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

You know, sometimes you really let me down Orlando. Are you really this dumb? Can you really not tell a fake video from a real one? Much like my hashtag blog, there is another moronic trend happening on Facebook that seems to be spreading faster than Ryan Dunns Porsche.

The latest craze in the internet phishing scams which is making every male look like a creeper is this bitch you see above supposedly having her huge boobs pop out on live television. Shocking, I know. Except there’s one thing: its fake. Much to the chagrin of your penis (or vagina if you get down like that) there’s no titty, no spanish broad, no live TV, nothing. Once you click the link, it opens a new window, and immediately closes. What gives? Well congrats, you just took the bait and have officially been phished. Pretty soon you’ll be posting links to all your friends walls telling them how you won a free iPod nano and all sorts of other bullshit.

Now, my question is: how did you think this was real? Could you not tell that the play button was in the center of the “video”? Or that its all pixelated and shit? Let’s take a look at what a legit video posted on Facebook looks like…

Notice the play button in the bottom left-hand corner? The clarity of it. The YouTube link below title of said video that you are able to click on which you are not able to click on with Juggs’ video at the top? The film reel indicating that this is indeed a video that you will not be redirected to another site to view? Are these details that only The Donk, myself and my fellow nerds notice? Apparently, because this shit is all over my feed so I hope this blog has helped you pay more attention to what you’re clicking on. Seriously, if you’re trying to see a bitches titty pop out, there are plenty of other sites to do that, so why attempt to on Facebook?

ATTN: Orlando “Promoters”

Posted by dLux On June - 24 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

That video basically said it all. This Facebook event invite bullshit is dead as fuck, no one reads them anymore ever since they changed the system to only show them on the side of the page and not in your actual notifications. Plus you are able to block people that constantly send you an invite, every week, on the same day, for the same event, with nothing special about it going on. You’re better off just posting the event to your wall/status and just using it merely as a billboard but as far as thinking that the 300+ confirmed guests are going to show up to your night? Unlikely.

“I have no idea what a lowercase letter looks like.”

SERIOUSLY WHATS WITH THE EVENTS BEING ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS?! DO THE FREE DRINKS POP OUT AT YOU MORE WHEN ITS LIKE THIS? OR WAIT, I GOT IT, WE’LL POST THE SAME THING FOR THE NEXT 3 LINES…

Phew, ok I got it now! I almost didn’t understand but thankfully you put that 3rd line in there and now its crystal clear.

I know what you’re thinking, “well you assholes use to be the KINGS of straight-up ASSAULTING people on Facebook with spam, events and what-not”. That may be true but I will say that we have toned it down very, very much since 2008-2009.

“You see that notification on your Facebook? You think its a chick that wants to bone, WRONG, its Dom, inviting you to The Deck”

We’ll just leave that one to your imagination….

Video blog Wrap-up (Pink flamingo’s inside)

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On June - 24 - 2011 1 COMMENT

DJ dLux is going to kill me for making my first blog back to the site in months so meaningless. If I wasn’t writing this at 7am after a crazy night out it would probably make more sense and be much more entertaining, but with the sunlight creeping through my window this is the best I can do .

We had a great night out at Fubar tonight. Place was packed as it usually is on my Thursday night. The Last Night’s Hype crew and I made a little video wrap-up of the evening I would like to share. If you haven’t figured out yet it is just a matter of days, maybe hours, before the Orange County Concepts that you all know and love becomes “LastNightsHype.com”. I covered this a little bit in my last photo upload blog, basically We have been looking for a new name for quite some time now, and have gone through more short lived changes than a middle schooler hitting puberty. We feel like this name change to the blog reflects our website concept, and future outlook much better. So on that note, enjoy this video, and what will probably be the last blog post on OCC as you know it.

OH WAIT!!

There is a pool party today that should be pretty awesome! We will be there taking pictures and throwing Mr. Last Night’s Hype around in the pool. He needs a bath pretty bad after tonight. He looks dirtier than a sorority girls flip-flop wearing feet.

Music by DJ Brian ‘Docta’ Dawe (me) and DJ Jonny Quest, and maybe DJ dLux if he wants to show up (which would be pretty sweet.) Official LNH launch pool party coming soon, but this will have to do until then. Check the facebook invite here.

DJ Big Mike Arrested For Selling Mixtapes

Posted by dLux On June - 16 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The NYPD has finally cleaned the streets up from a criminal ring of…mixtape DJs? A 2 year investigation has ended with the arrest of well known mixtape DJ Big Mike. Didn’t we already go through this a few years ago with DJ Drama? Maybe it was time to bust a NY cat.

Apparently the RIAA compiled a team together to investigate what they suspected was a “burner lab” aka a place to duplicate CDs. What a bunch of bullshit. I suppose the RIAA doesn’t watch the record labels below them that feed music to these mixtape DJs for them to do exactly what Big Mike was doing.

I’m sure the people of New York are very glad to know that their tax dollars are going to clean up these DJs from selling mixtapes meanwhile right under their nose there are people getting shot, selling crack, etc.

Yes, I realize that taking music from an artists album and throwing it on a mixtape then selling said mixtape is illegal, but at the same time the labels GIVE the DJs music to put on the mixtapes to get their new artists out there! Not long ago (well, actually almost 10 years ago, fuck I’m old.) in 2003 when a little artist named 50 Cent debuted and reignited the mixtape game, it was not uncommon for the RECORD LABEL to pick a DJ to put out a mixtape first, then the album. It was a way for them to test the waters and see if the album was going to be worth it to them in the end and how much marketing money they should put behind it in videos, radio spots, etc.

Beyond all that, it is fucking 2011. If people aren’t buying the mixtapes, they are out there in blog-land downloading the tracks they want for free, or streaming it from apps/sites like Pandora and Groove Shark. This cat and mouse game between record labels and consumers has been going on since the turn of the millenium and does not seem to be stopping anytime soon.

Well, Hulk Hogan Lebron James and the n.W.o. Miami Heat didn’t win the WCW Heavyweight Title NBA Finals, but thats ok, like any good heel they’ll be back next year talking shit and pissing people off and I will again be on their side because they played the perfect villain the entire season and how can you not like that??

Yes, the finals were a great series. Close games, shit talking, viral videos, fights, everything Vince McMahon Daniel Stern wanted.

The NBA Finals do not get to say they had the greatest play of the year, nor do the NBA playoffs for that matter. No, that title goes to just a regular season game with quite possibly the scariest man in all of basketball, Kevin Garnett. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you….The Dick Slap.
