20 Questions w/ BevrlyKills

Posted by dLux On September - 29 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Yeah, yeah…it’s been a minute since I have done one of these but real life gets in the way sometimes. All of us here at Last Nights Hype have been extremely busy with gigs (in and out of town), real jobs, babies, school, flamingo drops and everything else under the sun. But rest assured I’m back like cooked crack and this week we have Bevrly Kills answering 20 Questions.

Chris Beverly aka BevrlyKills has been doing his thing around town for years now and doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. He has gracefully moved from the UCF scene to the downtown scene in DJing and has also moved from DJing into dabbling a little in production. His dedication and love of DJing is very apparent as a doctor told him that his ears are more sensitive than most and that he shouldn’t DJ at all because it is so damaging, but he said fuck that and just bought some rockstar equivalent ear plugs and kept the party moving.

1. Weapons of choice? (Equipment, mixer, software)
Technics 1200′s, Pioneer DJM800 (the shit), and Serato/Macbook Pro of course.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
A mixture of big room house.

3. Favorite producer?
Avicii (dude is the man).

4. What are you listening to in your car?
Depends; Lately been listening to a lot of oldies and also checking Friendly Fires new CD, which is really good. I listen to everything!

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Probably Avicii Level’s even older people cant help to dance.

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Hard to name a song but I’ll list some artist…
House Producer: Arty (His new stuff is amazing)
Hip Hop Artist: Childish Gambino

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
Paul Oakenfold that dude is a mixing genius.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
Real hood shit that makes all the girls leave the dancefloor. (Flocka?!)

9. Where was your first weekly?
STD’s, hate that place.

10. Where can we find you now?
Be here for another month until I move to LA. But Thursday & Saturday at Downtown Pourhouse and Friday’s at 509 (Daytona).

SWITCH!

11. I personally think you have one of the most original DJ names in Orlando, especially because it relates to your real name…tell us how you came up with that? Thanks, well before I started really DJing I used to work at subway. Myself, and one of my good buddies started throwing around the name beverlykills but both thought its too long and its missing something. So I thought to drop one of the “e’s” and go with bevrlykills. So it also has the meaning of “bev rly kills”.

12. You’re another DJ who has seemed to gracefully segway out of the UCF scene and into Downtown Orlando…which area do you like better and why?
Downtown definitely; more mature crowd and better quality of music you get to play. however, every once in awhile there is nothing like some good college party rocking.

13. You dabble in production with some of our past 20 Questionee’s, Kid Judah & DJ Trendkiller…which track would you say is you guys best work together?
Haven’t worked with Trendkiller quite yet. Here is a track I did with Judah: http://soundcloud.com/bevrlykills/bevrlykills-kid-judah-left/s-28FWB
and here’s one I did with Killagraham which is featured in this demo reel:

14. What’s your opinion of the Dubstep EXPLOSION that has taken place in Orlando, and how annoying is it when people request Dubstep and then follow it up with “Play something like Cinema”?
I think it’s great when there is good dubstep being played, any events supporting dance music is good for Orlando. Honestly, I try and play cinema early so I dont have to deal with those request later on lol.

15. Have you attended The Tilted Kilts superstar line-up of DJs on Wednesday night? I heard they have deadmau5…
Not just him Rusko, Skrillex, and Benassi but I think they cancelled cause I showed up and none of them were there? So weird. Tilted Kilt is a great venue too..

THIS OR THAT…

16. iPhone or Android?
IPhone

17. Snapback or Fitted?
Fitted

18. Del Taco or Taco Bell?
Del Taco is the worst! (WHAT?!)

19. Facebook or Twitter?
Twitter

20. Any final words?
Wanted to say Thanks for hitting me up for this interview, appreciate it! Everyone check out my newly done website www.bevrlykills.com! Also having a growing away party next month! Woop Woop! OH, and also check out my first release remix single coming out soon on Beatport and Itunes! Featuring the lovely Keylas and the Highrollers!

20 Questions w/ DJ T-Gibbs

Posted by dLux On September - 5 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

We took a week off but rest assured, your favorite column about awesome people in Orlando, 20 Questions, is back. This week we are featuring Docta Dawes roommate and the guy who use to spin Hip-Hop on Saturday Nights at Jesse Blacks, DJ T-Gibbs.

DJ T-Gibbs, has since moved on from Jesse Blacks (obviously) and is now the Master of Rage on Saturdays at Roxy with his masked group, Hysteria. He also, with Docta Dawe, runs a couch surfing company in their house but vacancy is slim right now. The questions in this round are definitely some of the more fun ones I have done and Gibbs was a very good sport and took all of them in stride.

1. Weapons of choice? (Equipment, mixer, software)
Currently CDJ 1000s, DJM 900, Serato, Dicers, and Akai MPD 26.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
Dirty Electro.

3. Favorite producer?
Your making me just pick ONE?!?……from a strictly technical side, Skrillex. His synths (if you can call them that) are pushing the envelope of electronic music. Any producer that has tried to recreate his sounds knows what I mean.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
Nero – Promises, on repeat.

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Avicii – Levels

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Deadmau5 – Raise your Weapon. Such a sick track, but I feel like it didn’t get any love until Madeon remixed it.

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
DJ Skribble’s Summer Essential mix 2001 changed my life lol Throughout highschool I worked for a production company that did strictly corporate events, weddings, and bar/bat mitzvahs. So my music knowledge was quite narrow and that CD opened my eyes to electronic music. More locally though, DJ Eric Velez really helped to push me out of the bartending scene and back into DJing.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
LMFAO – Shots

9. Where was your first weekly?
Friday night at Devaneys…awwwyeeaaahhh.

10. Where can we find you now?
Rage Saturdays at Roxy.

SWITCH!

11. Tell us about your group, Hysteria, and how that came about…
When we started up Rage at Roxy, we wanted to bring something different to the night. The premise is that the first half of the night is a normal club night with free drinks and top 40 music, then we fucking RAGE. Hysteria is the by-product of excessive Raging. It started with myself, but we really wanted to have a duo. Enter Rudy Zwaans: My friend, Producer, button-pusher, and David Guetta look-a-like. But the DJ duo has been done before and I felt we needed something else to brand ourselves and push the envelope which is Rage. Hence our wicked cool smiley masks….

12. Who did you model your mask after?
Everyone wants to know where they came from lol I didn’t make them, they came from an undisclosed country. As for what they are modeled after, if you play as many xbox games as dLux you should be able to figure it out. (I’m drawing a blank!!)

13. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being smellier than Columbia after he’s been working on cars all day, how bad does the inside of your mask smell?
Actually they constantly smell of rich mahogany.

14. How great or not great is it to DJ out at UCF?
I enjoyed DJing out by UCF, I think its safe to say that I worked at the best and worst college bars, but very few DJs can pull off DJing UCF side for a long period of time. “It Ain’t Easy Being Greezy”

15. Whats the going rate to sleep on the floor/couch at your house?
5 hours of manual labor and the right to name your firstborn child, or apparently its free if your banging Dawe or Columbia.

THIS OR THAT!

16. iPhone or Android?
iPhone

17. Tuxedo Condom or Regular?
Always keep it classy…

18. Last Nights Hype Photography or My City Scene Photography?
Whats2Hot….im a big fan of batch editing. (Clever!)

19. Tyler, The Creator or Kreayshawn?
Kreayshawn….Tyler who?

20. Any final words?
Sure, why not? First off, I just want to say thank you to anyone who has come out to one of my nights, or supported me in any way. Thanks to dLux and the rest of the Last Nights Hype crew, nice dick, and thank you to my friends that are helping me move forward in every aspect of my life. Life is short, live your dream and share your passion.

Thanks again to T-Gibbs for being such a good sport about my slightly asshole-ish questions, as always its all in good fun on Last Nights Hype and some people take things we say/do a little too close to heart. We don’t say anything that isn’t the truth and sometimes, like Tom Cruise, you can’t handle the truth.

Join us next week as we have the black man playing the white jams and one of the best DJ names out there, Bevrly Kills. Be sure to check out all our past entries as well.

20 Questions w/ DJ Trendkiller

Posted by dLux On August - 15 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

“Bring it back, bring it back, bring it back, bring it back….” Yes, yes we are back again with another round of Orlandos favorite new column featuring everyone that doesn’t suck, 20 Questions!

This week we are featuring who I thought was the long-hair-don’t-care DJ Trendkiller but as you’ll read on I was sadly mistaken. I remember hearing about this kid about 2-3 years ago when Docta Dawe and I were just having one of our usual video chat dates. He said there was this one kid at TDs that was actually good and clearly did not belong. Those were my thoughts too, fuck those kids at TDs, they don’t deserve to hear Disco Villians remixes, they should Walk It Out till their ears fall off.

Needless to say Trendkiller got out of there and never looked back. He not only DJs by himself, but pairs up with a drummer and becomes The Royal Kids. He hates requests, hates shitty DJs, hates grimey bar owners, and isn’t afraid to go against the grain and infect people with ear knowledge no matter where it is, and thats exactly why we wanted him for 20 Questions.

1. Weapons of choice? (Equipment, mixer, software)
Technic 1200s, Pioneer DJM 909, Macbook + Serato

2. Favorite genre to spin?
Genres tend to go out the window when I spin. I just love playing bass-heavy neck-breaking tunes that get the crowd bouncing.

3. Favorite producer?
Feed Me has been on a tear lately. I just saw him live out in California and his tracks never cease to amaze me.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
A lot of Siriusmo and a whole mess of Radio One Essential mixes.

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
People seem to be in love with LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem. I’m not a huge fan of it, but it always seems to take the party to another level.

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Orlando’s own Killagraham (http://soundcloud.com/killagraham) made a proper remix of Drake’s ‘I’m On One’ that deserves a lot more recognition.

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
A-Trak, Craze, Klever, and DJ AM were all definitely big influences early on.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
I hate 99% of requests. The only time I don’t hate a request is when the person asking you to play a song takes the genre and/or BPM into consideration.

9. Where was your first weekly?
Monday Nights at Knight Library. Things have changed a lot since then.

10. Where can we find you now?
Monday Night: Dungeon Lounge (Dubstep/Drumstep/Electro)
Tuesday Night: Downtown Pourhouse (Open Format)
Thursday Night: The Attic (House/Electro/Dance)

SWITCH!

11. Tell us about your side project, The Royal Kids
Well, it started as a side project and has since developed into my main focus. My Friday night venue was looking to liven up the music a little, so I suggested bringing my good friend Steve Addington to come play drums with me. We practiced for maybe 20 minutes before the show and started flowing really well and things just took off from there. Essentially we’re a DJ/Drummer combo with a very diverse range of music.

12. Where can we catch you guys out?
We play Riot Wednesdays and Saturday nights at Knight Library, and at Downtown Pourhouse on Friday Nights.

13. What shows coming to the Orlando area are you most looking forward to?
I’m glad Orlando finally started bringing in some bigger EDM artists. Im looking forward to seeing Chromeo as well as Skrillex/12th Planet/Foreign Beggars.

14. Why are there so many bad DJs with gigs around this town?
Because these grimey bar/club owners don’t give a shit what’s coming through the speakers as long as they’re making money at the door and selling alcohol.

15. Are you ever going to cut your hair?
I actually shaved my head about 2 weeks ago and I didn’t miss it until I just read this question! RIP (11/2009 – 07/2011)

You can get with this, or you can get with that…

16. UCF or Downtown gigs?
100% downtown

17. 128 BPM with dubstep wobbles or 140 BPM true dubstep?
I really like 128 BPM with half-time breakdowns, but 140 is king.

18. Phillies or Dutchies?
< White Grape Games

19. King of Dubstep: Skrillex or Rusko?
I saw them both live and I honestly have to say DATSIK impressed me way more than Skrillex or Rusko.

20. Any final words?
Just a massive thanks to everyone that enjoys and supports what I do!

Be sure to Like DJ Trendkiller on Facebook and make it a point to go check him out. I agree with him about Party Rock Anthem, anybody who thinks that song is the greatest thing ever clearly has never heard LMFAOs best song, hands down, “I Am Not A Whore”. Way to one-up me on the Game blunts, MAN. I think I’m just gonna start asking what peoples go-to choice for rolling up weed tobacco is instead of giving choices.

Once again big thanks to DJ Trendkiller for being apart of 20 Questions, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled like an uncircumcised penis for next week with deadmau5….wait, I meant DJ T-Gibbs.

20 Questions w/ DJ A-Rock

Posted by dLux On August - 4 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Back like cooked crack (aye!), it’s 20 Questions. This week we are talking to the DJ that has the best shoe selection in Orlando, DJ A-Rock.

A-Rock, like our last participant, DJ Rincon, is not only DJing in Downtown Orlando, but he has taken his show on the road with traveling shows, that being the Dew Tour.

Whether its the beginning of the month at Vain, scaring people at Blue Martini on Mondays with Dubstep (or opening for Lil’ Jon, no big deal), playing a more chill vibe at Ember on Tuesdays, or his creme de la creme gig at Rok Room on the weekends, to say that he keeps himself busy is an understatement. A-Rock is also one of the DJs in Orlando keeping scratch techniques/routines in his set and for that, like Tosh, we thank you.

1. Weapons of choice? (Equipment, mixer, software)
Technic 1200′s, Rane TTM-57, Pioneer 800, Serato.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
All of them! No but seriously, I like all types of music. I try and keep it as diverse as possible. Keeps it fun.

3. Favorite producer?
Toss up between Tensnake and Louis La Roche.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
Carte Blanche – White Man On The Moon

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Let’s face it, Give Me Everything – Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo, Nayer & Afrojack is a huge. (Agreed.) Dr. Gonzo Anthem – Crookers is ridiculous.

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Man, music comes out lightning quick. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but some songs don’t even get a chance. So I’d say two songs that if people don’t know about, should check… ION – D.I.M. and TAI and Eargasm – Black Raw.

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
I got started because I saw an Incubus show back when I was 16, and watching Kid Kilmore manipulate samples into the live band sets was amazing to me. A.M. 100%. Z-Trip. X-Ecutioners. A-Trak. KLEVER. Enferno. Magic Mike. DJ NOVA.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
“Do you have that birthday song?” “Can you play something I can dance to?”

9. Where was your first weekly?
Red Coconut Club @ Citywalk.

10. Where can we find you now?
In my studio answering these questions. Haha. Ember on Tuesdays & Fridays, 1st Thursdays @ VAiN, Blue Martini Mondays, & Rok Room. Nothing against my residencies, but Rok Room Sundays is by far my favorite party. I get to play WHATEVER I want. It’s a great vibe, and the energy is always on point. I’m also out on the 2011 Dew Tour this summer. I’m also starting to play outside of Orlando a lot more so it’s been nice.

Switch!

You are an avid sneaker freak, so lets find out what kicks make the man…

11. Favorite pair if you had to choose?

MAN, I can only pick one??? Well I can’t so I’ll provide a pic of my top 5…

Dunk Haze: These mean A LOT to me. Last picture most people saw of A.M. he was throwing out the first pitch at a Mets game in New York. I came across these at the Dunk XChange earlier this year, and got a great deal on them.
Jordan III Black Cement: Quite possibly the greatest sneaker of all time
Bottom Row:
Nike Air Trainer III from DJ AM’s Collection
Nike Air Yeezy
Nike Dunk Goldenrod : I have 3 pairs. Such a great, clean, colorway.

12. Go-to pair that you’re rocking right now?
Nike Dunk Low Splatter.

13. Upcoming release you are looking forward to?
SB has been on point with some of their releases this year, from the Liberties to the Space Jams. Jordan has killed it with the Retro III releases and I’ve been lucky enough to cop em all, so I’m looking forward to the Black Cements releasing later this year.

14. Most paid for a single pair and which ones?
I had to cop my Black Cement III’s off EBAY, so I paid a lil bit for em. Luckily I received the Yeezy’s as a gift or else that would have cost some mint.

15. High tops or Low Tops?
Depends on the day, weather, fit, etc.

You can get with this, or you can get with that….

16. iPhone or Android?
iPhone allllll dayyyy. Instagram YUH!

17. Regular or V-Neck?
V-Neck, but I collect Vintage T’s so I have A LOT OF LOVE for the crew neck. LOL

18. Skinny Jeans or Baggy?
Baggy jeans just don’t look right.

19. Fitted or Snapback?
Snapbacks are in right now, but a fitted cap is timeless.

20. Any final words?
Thank You to Last Nights Hype for including me in “20 Questions”. I appreciate it 100%. If anyone wants, stay up with me on twitter @DJ_AROCK or Like http://www.facebook.com/DJAROCK1

No, thank YOU DJ A-Rock for being another great addition to 20 Questions, our weekly feature on DJs, photographers, and anyone else is Orlando making their own lane for themselves. Be sure to check out all our past entries in 20 Questions with Kid Judah, DJ Y-Not?, and DJ Rincon.

Join us next week as we feature the long-hair-don’t-care, DJ Trendkiller.

20 Questions w/ DJ Rincon

Posted by dLux On July - 26 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Yes, we’re I’m back! And this ain’t no photo album, its our continuing column of who doesn’t suck in Orlando, 20 Questions!

This week we feature the 2010 Redbull ThreeStyle Champion, DJ Rincon. I actually met him for the first time at that very competition and he was the first DJ to drop a Biggie song and really get the crowd hyped (the competition was on March 9th, the anniversary of the Notorious ones death). Rincon went on to win the competition and move on in the contest and take a trip to Miami where he would later be judged by DJ Jazzy Jeff among other big names.

Rincons versatility is very apparent in the wide array of places he holds weeklys. From 23, to Tavern On The Lake, and the newly (re)opened Zen Ultra Lounge, he is everywhere.

1. Weapons of choice?
Rane TT57, Technic 1200s, and Vinyl.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
It depends on my mood and which personality I am when I wake up. But in general I can enjoy each genre I spin equally depending on the crowd.

3. Favorite producer?
I have a few, lately I have been feeling Axwell and Bartbmore. In hip-hop I have too many to name.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
I’m one of the few that listens to talk radio, I usually tune into radio stations when they have mixshows.

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Alexandra Stan – Mr Saxobeat

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Lupe Fiasco – Word I Never Said

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
My Friend Albert who was a 50 year old disco DJ, who coached me on how to blend when I was in my early 20s.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
I really hate getting requests for Bon Jovi and Journey, But if its at a mobile gig then I really don’t care.

9. Where was your first weekly?
It was at AKA lounge for a b-boy night, It was good times. If you can DJ for breakdancers, more than likely you can handle any crowd.

10. Where can we find you now?
Wed, you can find me at club 23 on Church street, On Thursdays you can find me at the new Club Zen, On Fridays you can find me at Dragon Room, On Saturdays you can find me at Tavern On The Lake.

Switching gears…

11. You won the RedBull Threestyle DJ battle last year here in Orlando, tell me what it was like hearing your name as the winner?
I was in shock really, I remember scracthing my head when the said my name. It was one of those things I won’t forget, like the closest I ever felt to being in a movie. Other than that the only other thing I have won is the claw machine game at wallmart, I don’t really think about that night that much because I don’t want to be one of those dudes that live in the past lol

12. What would be your dream opening slot for someone or which artist would you love to act as their DJ?
I don’t really dream of opening slots, I just dream about being a headliner and having people that doubted me be my openers.

13. East Coast or West Coast 90′s hip hop? Why?
I like West Coast more, Even though I’ve only been there once, I just get a better vibe from them, they don’t tolerate any B.S., I can respect that.

14. What do you think of the Dubstep movement that is taking over Orlando? Dubstep?
There is a movement here? I think that only popular with the college crowd, because I still haven’t had anyone request any. I think its just hype, Orlando is known for jumping on bandwagons and then falling off when it hits a bump. I can respect the DJs that spin that music with good fundamentals of turntablism, they will make it when the hype is over. The other ones will end up like reggaeton DJs, playing house or like unemployed Breakbeat DJs from the 90s.

This or that…

15. Android or iPhone?
Android, because putting files and music is way more simpler than dealing with the cluster fuck mess of syncing Itunes

16. Snapback or fitted hat?
Fitted.

17. High top or Low tops?
If I’m wearing shorts, I will only wear low tops. If Im wearing pants, it doesnt matter cause I don’t rock skinny jeans… Swag.. lol.

18. Xbox or PS3?
PS3 looks better, I plan on buying one soon eventually when I have time to play video games. It will probably save me money in the long run.

19. Millennia Mall or Florida Mall?
Florida Mall if you want to see Brazilian girls with big asses. I go to Millennia Mall if I want to feel like a baller.

20. Any final words??
If anyone is reading this hit me up on these following sites, and I want to give a shot out to every DJ, if any of you want to work or build something together hit me up. I can’t really think of anything else to say I’m not much of a motivational speaker lol. (PS don’t spam me.)

20 Questions w/ DJ Y-Not?

Posted by dLux On July - 11 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Back up in yo ass with the resurrection its 20 Questions. This week we feature the Self-Proclaimed Sandwich King himself, DJ Y-Not?.

DJ Y-Not? has been around the Orlando area for about as long as I can remember going out honestly. His extremely diverse range is really something special and his SoundCloud was actually the soundtrack to me chilling by the pool a couple weeks ago, as it has been perfect for when I first wake up and just want something on but nothing too committing. Whether its taking rare 90s acapellas and putting them over old-school soul records with ease, or scratching the absolute shit out of some battle records…dude is a beast.

Lazy Afternoon warm up 6 12 2011 by SIRYNOT

Funny story actually, when I was just starting to muster enough courage up to play in public places and felt that I had a solid mixtape to back myself up with, one of the first people I gave it to was DJ Y-Not?. I remember going to Saturday/Thursday and always finding myself glued to his sets in the den. They were everything that I listened to, that I felt everyone else should be listening to when they go out, but also sprinkled in enough music that everybody listened to, to make it all just work. He continues that with his latest party, Lazy Afternoon Sundays. I saw Klever when they brought him to Eye Spy and it was a good ass time. Chill atmosphere, incredible DJ, even more incredible smelling weed, good people, what more could you want? Work with me people.

1. Weapons of choice?
Two 1200s and a Rane 57, shout out to Sir Otto.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
I go through little phases with it where I discover and re-discover old music. Right now I’m really digging funk, boogie and disco edits. Although, I’m not sure there is demographic in Orlando that really appreciates my grown folk steelo. Oh and I’d like to go on record and say that I give EVERYTHING a chance and every genre has it’s gems. I don’t get hung up on catch words like “dubstep” and “Moombathon” though. New DJ’s get so absorbed in certain things and they miss out on many of essentials .

3. Favorite producer?
The Mizell Brothers.

4. What are you listening to in your car?
In my car, I listen to a lot of mixtapes. I don’t have an iPod hook up in my car or an ipod for that matter so I like to set it and forget it. I’ve been really enjoying Jayceeoh’s “Super 7″ mixtape series, keep all 4 of those on deck, freshness. I stay on sound-cloud grabbing LIVE mixes, the human element (fuck ups) is beautiful. With that being said some of these Ableton mixes are real creative, been bumping Breakbot “Lazy Sunday Selectah” mix. Perfect laid back summer driving soundtrack.

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
“I’m on one.”, hands down.

6. Most slept on song of 2011?
Every song that was released, people don’t even have time to really digest music anymore with the volume of ish that hit’s the interwebs every day.

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
I grew up in a suburb outside of Portland Oregon and at the time, DJ’s Wicked, Bless 1, and Void we’re my biggest influences coming up. Used to go to all the hip-hop shows early to check the opening DJ set the vibe.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
Any request…I hate.

9. Where was your first weekly?
My first weekly was a Monday at Tatame in Winter Park. We used to hold it down and guzzle Saporros and Sake like it was going out of style. Around that same time I started playing Cleo’s which I’ve been in for 5+ years or so. Weekly’s can be fun but tedious.

10. Where can we find you now?
In the Streets. I’m not as busy as I would like to be these days but I just signed up for the DJcity mp3 pool and am gonna download all the top 40 electro bangers. All jokes aside I’m really focused on helping continuing to build the Lazy Afternoon series. In the past year we’ve had some heavy DJ’s come through Craze, Klever, Kon, Nu-mark, DJ Day, Questlove, Pete Rock, Rich Medina, Maseo etc. We’ve decided to hold off on keeping it going weekly for now due to Florida’s rainy season. We will be back labor day weekend with Special guest Rich Medina at substance gallery. Be sure to stay up at www.thelazyafternoon.com Got some Tampa gigs booked later this month, always fun playing in the New Jersey of Florida. Other night’s are just a Stone’s Throw away…don’t sleep! I’m definitely planning on being the old man in the club.

Switching gears….

11. You’ve been proclaimed the “Sandwich King of Orlando”, where does a King get a sandwich in this town?
Mills Market get’s my co-sign. I try to stear clear of chain restaurants when possible but I ride for Jimmy John’s due to them being open late and the bread being sweet, think they put crack in it.

12. East Coast or West Coast?
If I got to choose a coast I got to choose to the East, I live out there so don’t go there but that doesn’t mean I can’t rest in the West see some nice breast in the West, smoke some nice sess in the West. Ya’ll dudes is a mess, thinking I’m gonna stop giving Portland Oregon props.

13. Do you think Odd Future has the potential to be the next Wu-Tang Clan?
All I know is, I really hope that kid Earl comes back tho, he’s definitely the nicest out of the crew and on that note, please click this link and listen to this…

The RZA is a prophet.

14. Phillies or Dutchies?
Vaporizer. (Oh you fancy, huh?)

15. High or Low Tops?
Open toe chancletas

16. Skinny Jeans or Baggy?
Shorts!

17. You use a ton of old school soul/funk records in your set, what would you say your favorite ones are?
I’ve been collecting records for years now, it’s my favorite pass time. I love the classics from James Brown (of course), he’s the god father. Lee Fields and the Expressions released a this LP “My World” which is hands down my favorite modern Soul record. These days I’m getting deeper in the crates and it take’s a lot more to perk up my ears. I was very happy to find an O.G. VINYL pressing of Demon Fuzz’s Afreka. It’s hard to label the sound but incorporates elements of Psychedelic soul, dub heavy funk, Afro-Jazz, and acid rock, next level far out musical schitt.

18. If you could share the stage with any act, who would it be and why?
I’d sing back up vocals for George Clinton.

19. If you could change one thing about Orlando, what would it be?
The Humidity.

20. Any last words?

Since we seem to have the attention of the entire city right now, I figured lets shed some light on some of the GOOD DJs around town. This will be a new, weekly column that I will be doing shedding light on some of the present, and future stars of this city.

To kick it off I decided to go to the hottest thing in skinny jeans right now, Kid Judah. I remember this kid at a pool party as just somebody who had a beast pair of speakers and now he is one of the hottest commodities in the UCF area let alone Orlando. He has DJ’d for the likes of Currensy & Mac Miller while they were in town and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

1. Weapons of choice?
Technic 1200′s till I die playboy.

2. Favorite genre to spin?
That nu-disco/french house/disco house. That kind of music forces you to be in a good mood, and who doesn’t love to disco?

3. Favorite producer/remixer right now?
Man it’s so hard to pick one…but as of right now, probably R3hab. That dude is serious.

4. What are you listening to in your car right now?
Well my car stereo is broken actually, so nothing? I headphone it with my iPhone while I drive, and I’ve been on a serious Big Sean tip lately. (Me too brah, “A$$” is my SHIT)

5. Banger of Summer 2011?
Adele – Set Fire To The Rain (Thomas Gold Remix)

6. Most slept on song of 2011?

7. Who influenced you early in your career?
I watched DJ AM videos on YouTube and Vimeo religiously (RIP). I always tried to have a DJ AM approach to mixing, with A-Trak’s style. God knows I would be the most epic DJ alive if I could successfully do that, but that’s sorta what I aimed/aiming for.

8. Song you hate getting requests for?
That Walking Flacking Flame dude….Well I really hate requests in general. (PREACH!)

9. Where was your first weekly?
This brings me back to a dark time in my life. TD’s summer of ’08. Luckily, things have changed! Haha.

10. Where can we find you now?
Monday at Fubar (UCF)
Tuesday at BOSS
Wednesday at Deko
Friday at Vain (Main Room)
Saturday at Deko

Ok, now let’s switch gears…

12. Fitted or Snapback?
Snapback. Fitteds are a dying breed.

14. Beer or Liquor? Drink of choice?
All I drink is Heineken. Oh, and warm shots of Jack, shots of American Honey (warm or cold)….aaannnd maybe some Absynthe (only on the weekdays).

15. Skinny Jeans or Baggy?
Skinny jeans. Levi or die.

16. High or Low tops?
Both. Sneakers are more precious than new born babies. I love them all.

17. V-neck or Regular?
Recently I’ve been steering away from the V, but don’t think I can’t pull off the deepest V’s in the game…I’ll go Pat Deep (shout outs to DJ Nymz).

18. Twitter or Facebook?
Facebook – if I was in middle school. Twitter all day. @kidjudah

19. iPhone or Android?

20. Any final words?
I got this side project I’ve been working on called Space Coast that I am super excited about. Its a hip hop project (don’t worry I’m not rapping) but I’ll be sending that to you soon. And you probably just forgot to ask, but I prefer brunettes over blondes.
