Tonight I got my first glimpse inside “Knight Klub”, but before I indulge, allow me to retrace the footsteps of this journey…
Aaahhhh, The Octagon. Home of my beloved “Shit Show Saturdays”. The Octagon, which was formerly know as “Pounders”, opened approximately seven years ago when UCF area bars were in there prime. This was before UCF had the GPA requirements they do now, and every UCF student was a fuck-up. Pounders had a celebrated male staff made up of the most well known frat boys in the area. The lines were around the building, the flip-flops were floppin’, and the pink shirts were collar-poppin’.

Fast forward to early ’07. Business was so good that the management decided to remove the notorious center bar to raise the capacity limit. Two large bars were built on each end of the building. The plan backfired, and all the empty space created an eerie warehouse feel. Pounders just wasn’t the same. After a few months of suffering business, Pounders management decided to close down shop and re-model, bringing back the “center bar”, and re-opening as “The Octagon”.

The Octagon’s reign in the UCF area was short lived. The space was much more attractive than it had ever been in the past, but they were hurt by the high profile opening of “TDs”, which was coincidentally the same week, and the other UCF area bars that offered all-you-can-drink specials at ridiculous prices. Despite the challenges, “The Octagon” still commanded a loyal following. “Shit Show Saturdays”, the anything goes weekly shit-fest, thrown by myself and the rest of the OCC crew proved to be one of the most successful weekly parties in the area, bringing in a rotating DJ line-up, and a semi-electro open music format which introduced the area to a different type of party. This weekly party proved to be the biggest breath of fresh air from the regular dude-brofests the area may have ever seen.

Once again the space at 10028 University Blvd is undergoing change, this one being the biggest yet. A new team has taken over the room, composed of a lot of familiar and respected nightlife vets. The main focus here is customer service and treating your paying, loyal clientéle with respect, something that is dreadfully rare in the UCF area, and the rest of Orlando for that matter. They aren’t a sports bar that is trying to pose as a club like the other area bars, no identity crisis here, and the name “Knight Klub” says it all. They have a lot of interesting plans in mind, which will be unveiled through opening week.

Visually they’re making some major changes as well, adding a second high-end bar, and a few other major changes they are not ready to announce. The new sound and lighting system will be the best in the UCF area, Including eight state-of-the-art computer controlled lighting rigs, and a breath taking strategically placed sound system. They are still making some tweaks as I write this, but you can expect the best when you walk in Knight Klub for the first time.

So now you ask, “What about my favorite Saturday night party, Shit Show Saturdays??” Shit Show will be remaining a similar party, but will be reincarnated as “Snatch Saturdays”. Details will be coming throughout the next few days, but you can rest assured music format will be staying the same, as well as the DJ line-up of myself and DJ dLux. Re-Launch will be THIS SATURDAY NOVEMBER 1st and we will be celebrating with FREE DRINKS AND BEER ALL NIGHT. Keep checking back for major updates over the next few days.

Last night Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso were supposed to be playing at the old Club Paris, which was renamed “Love” for the evening. It was a complete disaster. Tickets sold for $25 a piece, when Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso showed up to the venue only 150 people had walked through the doors and they were greeted with the news that they could not be paid in full. According to people in attendance the duo stayed around and chatted with guests, and then left without playing. Needless to say the people that came out and spent $25 were not very happy… Here are a few comments on the facebook invite page.

I am getting REALLY tired of writing blogs about Miami events. This is bullshit. Will someone PLEASE step up to the plate here in Orlando and bring some acts here that people actually want to see. Here is a challenge, if you can find an event in Orlando that DOESN’T SUCK BALLS send it over to me: BrianDawe@orangecountyconcepts.com – and I will feature it on the front page. I have scoured through the Orlando events calendars and see nothing appealing at all, with the exception of a few electronic shows on the Tabu Global House Tuesdays roster, and PVD @ Firestone.

If any of you were at the Fools Gold Party at White Room during WMC you know it was fucking insane. Basically, the best party of the entire conference with guest appearances from the entire Fool’s Gold Roster and lots of other surprises including Tommie Sunshine, MSTRKRFT, Boyz Noise, and Chromeo. I was there!!! Were you?? We’ll if not here is your official do-over.

Fool’s Gold, along with SCION A/V, will be throwing a free party at The White Room to showcase some of their artists. The lineup for this coming Tuesday, October 21st, includes: Jokers of the Scene, Nacho Lovers, Treasure Fingers and Nick Catchdubs. The free event runs from 10pm-4am, 18+ welcome. There is a civil war. My good buddies DJ dLux and Chris Callahan have been battling it out subliminally through OrangeCountyConcepts.com for over a month now. It all started when I put up a post of a very inebriated Chris passed out at Octagon. He awoke from his drunken coma the following day and realized he wasn’t comfortable exposing the glory of the night before to all of Orlando, so he deleted the post. dLux, decided to repost the photos that were contained within the blog back in the comments of the website. Chris asked dLux to take them down, dLux told Chris it wasn’t a big deal and to stop being a baby about it. Chris got mad and deleted dLux’s Admin status on the website.

Everything is a little blurry after that, but I know that numerous photoshopped images (which I would have included in this post if I could find them!!) popped up in posts on this website. Admin status’s on the website were upgraded and downgraded by Chris and dLux, comments were changed… Then Kaypee from our beloved “Camp Kaypee” tried to jump in and accidentally deleted half the website. So this little blog, my friends, is where the two of you can confine your little web war. Right here in the comments of this post. You’re both my friends, and it is embarrassing watching this lame internet battle. If I had the balls to call out a stranger to come meet me in a parking lot, you guys can learn to duke it out the old fashion way too. You guys are both “Authors” as punishment for being homos, and tomorrow you will both be “Admins” again. Battleship!!

It has been the speculation of a city for months now. It is a topic that has been beaten to death in the comment section of DEFAME: Orlando’s own blog to the point where people just stopped the finger pointing. If you are STILL not familiar with Defame: Orlando, it is a blog that has attacked various members of the Orlando nightlife community — some of them are vicious. Pretty much everyone has become a suspect, from nightclub photographer Kevin Collier, to DJ Miss Fit, to a girl named Meghan who was formerly employed by Firestone. But who really is Defame? Does anyone care? It seems like people are so infatuated with getting anonymous dirt on there friends and acquaintances that the game is more precious than the source.

We have learned from a reliable source, that has had a first hand encounter with “Defame” that it is written by a woman who worked at somewhere, and that she has at least one other female companion writing for her. The story line to how this discovery was made is very compelling, but we are going to spare detail. After learning this we decided to go on a little fact finding mission.

The space at 17 W Pine St. has had some interesting occupants over the years. Rumored to originally be the Orlando city morgue as well as a boarding school, restaurant, and furniture mill, this space has seen it all. In the late 1990′s and early 2000′s it was home to the infamous Blue Room (where your’s truly was the door manager, and resident DJ – little known Docta Dawe fact), which had world class talent such as DJ Sasha, Roger Sanchez, and many other play over the classic rane rotary mixer.

Now it is home to the fledgling Voyage. It has been slightly renovated from the old look of The Blue Room, but still utilizes the same basic layout. They have had a few successful weekly runs, such as “Rockstar Karaoke” but more notably epic failures such as “Saved by the 90′s”, “Peanut Butter Fridays”, “Knightlyfe/What’s Not College Night” and even our own “Academia Wednesdays”, although all hearty attempts, huge, huge, failures. With Voyage Orlando being such a fickle venue, maybe due to the location, maybe because of the layout – The masterminds behind the scenes decided a shot at a different Nightclub market – Miami.

Voyage Miami is located at 66 SW 6th St. in Downtown Miami, home of the old “bricks” club. The team that has taken over the space claims to be focused on customer service and treating their paying, loyal clientéle with respect, something that is dreadfully rare in Miami at the moment. Just like Voyage Orlando, this club has many challenges to overcome – Like all clubs, Voyage faces a downturn in the economy at the moment, weakening interest in bottle service at most venues, and a rather blah reputation for the last few spots to inhabit that venue. Right now the most notable night at Voyage Miami is “For Her Pleasure Fridays” with former Orlando DJ Kid Nemesis, former Roxy and Club Paris resident. Word on the streets is they have been giving away drinks like CRAZY in these first few opening weeks, with an OPEN BAR for hours on grand opening night along with a huge line outside. I’m curious to see if this venue will last, hopefully for them they will think outside of the typical Miami box and keep the parties fresh with world class DJ talent and good parties. We soon will see….

There is also talk that “What’s Not’s” DJ Frost will be making a Voyage Miami appearance soon. Hopefully he will be smart and leave his douchie friends from “What’s Not” in Orlando. Because despite what they say, Miami would laugh these fucking clowns right out of the city.

Carnival, the infamous Wednesday night party at Suite B has reincarnated as S.O.S., and promises to be bringing the hottest indie electro talent in the country back to Suite B every Wednesday night. They also are “hell bent on getting you drunk for cheap”. It looks like Suite B has actually gone out of there way to try to bring the Wednesday night party back to life. They have a “completely redesigned and tuned soundsystem, guest bartenders (no more old guy?), upgraded cooling and free lines of cocaine from Adrian in the bathroom. I kid!!!!

As the OCC flyer team and I shoved Firestone literature down peoples throats today at student union, I couldn’t help but to notice the main entrance was closed…. again. I started to wonder wtf was going on with the extended closure, so I did a little research. This might be old news to you, but its new to me:

“The south entrance to the Student Union has been closed, effective
immediately. Please use other entrances and exits to the building, other
doors are available next to College Optical & Greek Unique, at the west
side of the building next to the Pegasus Ballroom, and through the
Wackadoo’s Game Room.

The closing of the entrance is due to brick on the wall above the entrance
that is separating from the building and could potentially be a dangerous
situation. Engineers are determining the cause of the problem and the best
solution, but in the meantime, the doors must remain closed. A
construction tunnel will be built this weekend and foot traffic may resume
as normal on Monday, September 29. Thank you for your patience with this

Ahhh you gotta love “dangerous bricks”. Now everyone is forced to come out of one tiny door, which subjects them to our over aggressive street team screaming lies about free sandwiches and Bill Clinton appearances at Firestone.

Speaking of Bill Clinton, I hear he was rockin’ quite the sunglass tan today at his stump speech for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama outside the UCF Arena. It was Clinton’s first rally event for the campaign since Obama got the Democratic nomination. The speech, which was originally supposed to be held inside the UCF Arena, was moved outside in order to accommodate the 3,500 people who responded to the online RSVP to attend the speech. The arena only holds 2,000.

Obama campaign staffers said that at least 5,000 people attended, although that number could not be independently confirmed. About 20 people — students and non-students of all ages — fainted Wednesday afternoon as Clinton gave a stump speech for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama outside the UCF Arena. Heat and humidity were to blame, and Orange County emergency workers treated the victims. Insert Blow Job joke here.
