Liberty Barber Shop

Posted by dLux On November - 26 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

In honor of Small Business Saturday I decided to post a blog about one of my favorite local businesses in The City Beautiful and the place responsible for my mean haircuts, Liberty Barber Shop.

Located on Primrose between Robinson and South Street, Liberty Barber Shop is the place to go to keep that holiday fade fresh but also a great spot year round. Run by the one man army in John Duvoisin, a barber who has been all over the Orlando area for years cutting hair building a loyal clientele, and 3 years ago he opened his own shop. Whether you’re looking for a rockabilly comb-over, a soccer style Brazilian mullet, or just a scissor cut all over, John does it all finishing every haircut with a razor edge and hot lather sure to make you come back (ask @donk407). You can also buy all types of products for yourself from hair grease, gel, shampoo, and hot shave supplies.

Not only does he have a strong presence in the community, he also utilizes social media to his customers advantage. You can follow @libertybarber on Twitter for updates on when there is no wait to get that bro-hawk touched up when you’re in a rush, or check-in on Foursquare for free drinks, and special gifts.

Be sure to support all your local small businesses not only today but all the time, if there weren’t places like Liberty Barber Shop you would be stuck trying to explain your fade to Helen at Great Clips who would most likely cut your ear straight off.

Be sure to Like Liberty Barber on Facebook. For hours, prices, and pics of work done in the shop be sure to visit their website LibertyBarberShop.com

Young Money Card!

Posted by dLux On November - 25 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

You’ve seen the Russell Simmons pre-paid Visa, the Rush Card, well now everyones favorite auto-tuner has his own card for us 99%ers,  the Young Money Card! For the low price of $7 you too can have a pre-paid Discover card for all your holiday shopping!

Ok enough with the sarcasm, are we fucking serious with this? Lets be honest: if you purchase this card you’re an idiot. First off, its a Discover, so fuck your life. A lot of places don’t even take discover because their transaction fees are so high. Secondly, its 2011, if you don’t have your own debit card from a bank or something like that you might want to step into the now and look into that. Third, the fees on this card are ignorant, lets take a look:

$7 gets you the card, ok thats not that bad, most Visas are $5, I guess you gotta pay the extra $2 to have that Young Money. Here’s where it gets stupid: $4 a month to even have the card, and $5 for every reload! Are you serious bro? Anyone who buys one of these cards and sends us a pic will get a free flamingo signed personally by Dawe and I then a slap across the face.

What’s next? A Mac Miller American Express with your choice of a snap back or thumbs up on the front? Time will only tell…

Dwight Howard brings the old school back!

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On November - 14 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Dwight Howard brought professional basketball back to Orlando, even if it was only for one night. With the impending NBA lockout, this may be the only action Magic fans see all year. If that is the case this also may be the last time we see Dwight Howard representing Orlando, with his upcoming free agency next season.

There were close to 10,000 fans in UCF arena last night ready to catch a glimpse of the current Magic roster, as well as some old school magic players. Only days after what was supposed to be the regular season tip-off in the NBA, this exhibition game featured a team of “New School” Magic players versus a team of “Old School” Magic players.

The night had many memorable moments, but for old school Orlando Magic fans the star of the show was Penny Hardaway. At the age of 40, Penny isn’t quite the explosive young point guard we remember in the 90′s, actually, I only recall him scoring one three pointer (which sent the crowd into a frenzy), but this night wasn’t about stats. The Hardaway homecoming has been twelve long years in the making, and having Penny on the court in Orlando, regardless of his performance, was magical. In the end Penny’s team of “Old School” players beat out the “New School” 114-102.

Players who participated included Howard’s current teammates Gilbert Arenas, Brandon Bass, Quentin Richardson, Jameer Nelson and Ryan Anderson. Former Magic players who played included the previously mentioned Penny Hardaway, Courtney Lee, Steve Francis, Mike Miller, Matt Barnes, Rashard Lewis, Trevor Ariza and Marcin Gortat.

I hate to say it, but if I were Otis Smith I would be wondering how all this “Old School” talent got away. The “Old School” team definitely outplayed the “New School” team with strong performances from Courtney Lee, Matt Barnes, and Rashard Lewis. The “New School” team looked a little rusty, except for Brandon Bass. Bass was the strongest player of the night for the “New School”, other than Dwight. Of course, this was just an exhibition game.

Rapper Lil Wayne and boxer Floyd Mayweather served as celebrity coaches. Lil Wayne walked into the arena to a thunderous cheer, before his name was even announced.

A-Trak (finally) coming to Orlando

Posted by dLux On November - 1 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Orlando, it has finally happened. It’s not Steve Aoki, it’s definitely not Hyper Crush. No, THE heir to DJ AMs throne is coming to Orlando, DJ A-Trak.

To say that I am excited about this is a complete understatement. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this guy is going to come here and seriously put on a clinic. Just a few months after older brother Dave-1 of Chromeo brought his Fancy Footwork to The Beacham, little brother is coming to shut it down and show all you ableton DJs what it’s all about. From his Fools Gold Radio series, to the perfect-in-every-way Dirty South Dance mixtapes, this is one bad ass Jew on the decks. Did I mention he was a DMC champion at age 16?

(He’s not 16 here but still just insane)

November 29th, skip your usual Tuesday night party and come watch and listen to the best DJ in the world.
