Batman: Arkham City

Posted by dLux On October - 19 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The sequel to easily the greatest Batman game of all time, Arkham Asylum, was released yesterday and they have brought the action out of the Asylum and into the city and appropriately calling it: Batman Arkham City.

I played (and finished) the first game on Xbox 360 but I decided to buy the latest version on my newly purchased PS3 because I remember last year the graphics being a little bit slicker on PS3 so I figured why not.

I’m obviously not very far into the game (10%) but from what I have played so far this game is just fantastic. Think Grand Theft Auto meets Batman and that is this game. The main story obviously drives the game but there are plenty of ways to get distracted away from it. Side missions, Riddler Trophys, Catwoman missions in-between Batman missions, or if you just wanna beat some ass on the streets, nothing is off limits. I bought my copy from Best Buy which apparently unlocks the ability to play as Robin but I have yet to encounter those missions yet.

From what I have played so far, all of Batmans greatest rivals are showcased. Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Poison Ivy, Penguin, Croc, and of course the ringleader of the madness, The Joker.

The premise is as follows: Gotham City has basically had enough of these crazy fuckers in Arkham Asylum and built a peremiter wall in North Gotham and just let them loose inside the “city”. Bruce Wayne is running for public office and his press coference is ambushed and now he, among others, is now a political prisoner inside this cesspool of insanity. Always the quick thinker, Wayne breaks out of his handcuffs after beating some ass and hollers at his boy Alfred to air-drop him a Batsuit and we’re off to the races.

I won’t go any further than that (not that I am that much further from that point to begin with). I have complete faith that this game is going to be the shit from front to back just as its predecessor was. Game is available now on PS3, which if you actually have a 3Dtv you can play the game in 3D, but is also availble on Xbox 360 if you lack either of those of course.

Steve Jobs: Original Gangster

Posted by dLux On October - 10 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Lets get one thing straight: Steve Jobs was the fucking man and someone that will be talked about for generations. Whether you are Pro-Apple or not, it is an undeniable truth that you are just going to have to live with. His influence is most likely attached to at least one piece of technology in your home whether it be a computer, mp3 player, phone of a number of other things.

Last week, Patrick Schwayze finally answered the door that Steve Jobs was knocking on (too soon?) and the world lost the last great asshole in business. Now I say asshole because he was a very well known hard-ass in everything he did. It took record labels years to finally get him to come off the .99 cent price point for music and he did not give a fuck. If they didn’t want to be apart of what would become the #1 music retailer in the WORLD, then be his guest and leave. They obviously didn’t and he knew that they wouldn’t and that’s just the kind of muscle someone with his brilliance can flex. Same reason you can’t get iOS on any other device than an Apple, and the same reason the App Store is closely moderated as opposed to Androids malware infected Marketplace which will shit all over your phone at the click of a button.

The iTunes Store was one of the MANY great innovations brought to us from Jobs, but the single greatest thing that stands out to me is the timing of the introduction of the orignal iPod.

Think about it, the year is 2001, Shawn Fanning has crushed every new musicians dream of selling records, and every old musicians hopes of getting a royalty check with a little file-sharing program called Napster that is running rampant in every college kids (or High School for me) room downloading thousands upon MILLIONS of pirated content every second. Lawsuits are flying, Lars Ulrich is the most hated man in Metal, and the music industry is swan diving in what would start a decade long drop is sales figures that they would never recoup from, ever.

In steps Steve Jobs to do what he does best: Capitalize. What better way to take advantage of a market with basically no competition than to introduce a device to hold all these songs that you have stolen? The iPod was introduced and now you are able to stop burning CDs of the Death Row Records Discography you downloaded and you can have it all in one place on one device, all while Apple makes the money and the record industry still loses. Of course to cover their own tracks (no pun intended) they introduce the iTunes Music Store where you can buy music legally but let’s be honest, we all know what the original intentions were and that was to capitalize off all the pirated music out there at the time. Genius.

I could go on and on about all the things Jobs has contributed to our generation but you can read plenty of that on every tech blog/news website on the ‘net. I just wanted to give my point of view as to why I thought he was the man. We here at Last Nights Hype are proud to use his technology in every aspect of what we do (well, except for Dawe who hopefully will make the jump now that the iPhone 4S is available on Sprint). From DJing, photo editing, writing, designing, and recording…his legacy will truly live on in all of us.
