DJ dLux’s 10 Hottest MCs 2010

Posted by dLux On October - 26 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

As you may or may not know, MTV recently released their Top 10 Hottest MCs in the game for 2010. Above you will see my list, which has some of the same people and then some people that I felt deserved to on the list. You may agree, you may completely disagree. I encourage you to comment and get some debates going in the comments section cause nobody EVER comments on blogs yet we do huge numbers for page views so I know you guys are out there. With that being said, here we go…

#10 Soulja Boy

Dis…right here…is my…#10. Love him or hate him, you can’t deny him. The kid has one of the hottest if not THE hottest song in the clubs right now with “Pretty Boy Swag”, especially if you’re dropping the Gucci Mane remix. Right when the beat kicks in you will see and hear the whole club just go HAM. Soulja Boy is not a lyrical miracle by any means, but the kid has the right formula to keep the clubs popping for years to come. Getting co-signs from Kanye West, doing songs and grazing magazine covers with 50 Cent earned Mr. Tell’em his #10 spot.

#9 Curren$y

Lil’ Waynes biggest loss and what was and could have been a very valuable asset to his  Young Money roster today, Curren$y, comes in at #9. MTV completely left him off their list, which is somewhat understandable I guess considering he isn’t on TV or the radio, but all the blog kids know who he is. If you followed Lil’ Wayne before he became in my opinion absolutely mediocre, back in the Carter 1 & 2 days, you knew who Curren$y was. Releasing countless mixtapes and albums in the past year or two, the Hot Spitta’s recent album Pilot Talk, is one of the best releases of the year with the follow-up already slated to come out next month.

#8 Drake

As much as I am really tired of hearing Mr. Graham, he is also one that you cannot deny. The guy is basically everywhere and is one of if not THE innovator in the rapper & singer explosion that seems to be taking over the hip-hop game at the moment. I still stand by my statement in saying his debut album Thank Me Later was nowhere close in quality to his mixtape So Far Gone. One thing is for sure: ladies love Drizzy and the fellas wanna be him.

#7 Young Jeezy

This one might be one of the more questionable entries in peoples minds but the self-proclaimed Snowman has released some absolute heaters since his last album The Recession. Releasing the sequel to the classic mixtape, Trap or Die 2, and the title track to that mixtape being an absolute banger with production from ATLs own Zaytoven, to his recent leaks that have come from the producer that made his first album a “classic” to many people, Shawty Redd, the Snowman looks to be going back to that signature sound that put him on the map with “Rap Game” and “Sleep When I Die”. Not to mention being on one of the hottest songs of the summer with Plies in “Lose My Mind”. Jeezy was also snubbed by MTV so I am putting him on my list because every song that gets released or every album he has released I believe he has shown an extraordinary amount of growth as a lyricist.

#6 Wiz Khalifa

I will admit I slept on this kid for a good while but he has come around to be one of my favorites at the moment. I remember hearing about him years ago with the “Say Yeah” track and just kind of brushing him off. He also did a few mixtapes with my #9 pick, Curren$y, which I also slept on. The breakout track for me was probably the one die-hard fans are hating because it put him on the map, “Black and Yellow”. From that track on I have been hooked. He recently SOLD OUT his concert that is coming to Firestone Nov. 4th which shows you how much ground this guy is gaining in the hip-hop scene. His latest offering has him teamed up with one of my all time favorites, Juicy J, from Three 6 Mafia with their track “Tha Puff Bus (In My Car)”.

#5 Big Boi

Daddy Fat Sacks was another person snubbed by MTV on their list for reasons I do not understand. The one-half of Outkast literally put out the best album of the year while also putting the entire southern region in check showing them that the Boi still got it. There is not enough I can say about his debut album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. Just banger after banger on the album. His range is so vast that he can go hard on one track, then switch it up for the ladies on another. Stand out tracks are the Jamie Foxx assisted “Hustle Blood” or “Tangerine” with help from Dungeon Family member Khujo and fellow ATLien and my #4 pick, T.I.

#4 T.I.

Yes, not very smart when it comes to keeping himself out of trouble with the law as of late but he has been releasing quality music left and right. I basically wrote him off after his last album Paper Trail was just a industry packaged safe move for the pending trial he had. Once he got out that all changed with his comeback track “I’m Back”, then setting the streets on fire with “Pledge Allegiance To The Swag” with Rick Ross. The Bankhead Ambassador released yet another heater today with fellow Atlanta rapper Rocko called “I Can’t Help It” which is rumored to be off his new album King Uncaged No Mercy.

#3 Eminem

Marshall Mathers took the #1 spot on MTVs list, which I felt wasn’t too far off considering all he has done since his comeback. Selling just a boat-load of albums, killing the radio airwaves, and putting out one of the better albums of his career. There is no question that his Recovery album was a huge jump in quality from the album prior to it, Relapse. I still am on the fence about my feelings about the album (why does Eminem need pop features?) but I have given it a listen and as far as lyrical ability he is clearly in a league with some of the greats.

#2 Gucci Mane

Quite possibly receiving the biggest snub of anyone in the rap game was my man and your girlfriends favorite rapper, Gucci Mane. How did this guy not end up anywhere on the list? Really? You put his rookie, Waka Flocka Lame at #7 and don’t put Gucci Gucci? Flag on the play MTV. This guy has been the go-to guy for a feature for just about everyone across rap and pop, released a beyond solid album in The Appeal, and can be heard on about every other song in the clubs. His lyrical game has stepped up so much since his Trap House days it is ridiculous. Whether its a Twista-like flow, or a smooth soft spoken delivery, Radric’s lyrical range is very vast these days and doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

#1 Kanye West

Absolutely no question that this guy is #1 and should have been #1 on MTVs list. In an age where giving away free music is a common thing, no one has been putting out quality free music like Mr. West. Usually when rappers are giving away free music it is because it is a throwaway from the album and they don’t want to give away the good ones, but Kanye has been releasing solid tracks that could easily be album worthy. His G.O.O.D. Friday releases are some of the most consistent free releases I have heard in a long time. With posse cuts a hip-hop head can only dream of AND actually delivering on them, he has clearly paved out a lane of his own while building anticipation for his new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Let’s have a toast for the guy who is single-handedly saving hip hop.

Well there you have, that is the top 10 in my opinion. Agree? Disagree? Mad because I left Jay-Z & Lil’ Wayne out? Your comments are welcome and I encourage your opinions.

FRESHHHHH SQUEEEEEZE!

*stretch,yawn,crack knuckles, & takes a seat*

Good Morning Orlando, it’s been a busy week for me, but priorities come first(and this is next on the list).

A-Trak doesn’t always mix hip hop, but when he does it is always fresh and exciting.  As busy as he has been producing beat’s for Lupe, Kid Sister, Kanye, Armin Van Helden & keeping up with his live performances I was happy to stumble upon yet another accessories related track. Featured here w/A-trak is G.O.O.D. Music’s latest recruit CyHi Da Prynce. I have never heard ANYTHING from CyHi before so I was extremely satisfied with the way this turned out for Alain, kudos.  If you didn’t catch what I was referring to about the accessories related tracks, “Mastered – A-trak (feat. Lupe Fiasco)” was alternatively named “Me & My Sneakers”.  Hope none of you are left in confusion after reading this ;) .

Here’s some youtubage of Mr.CyHi showing his skills in a Popular Demand Free styling video. Not bad at all…

My friend threw this track at me probably a week ago and it grew on me rapidly. I enjoy the majority of Diplo’s remixes, but it’s pretty rare I enjoy those mixes when they are re-remixed. The Killabits have done an excellent job reworking “Never Good Enough – Major Lazer” and added the very pleasant wobble and bass feel that Switch and Diplo try not use very often (from what I have heard), but I feel this time it was necessary. I leave you now with a few more Wes related tracks to enjoy.

I Got Faces

Apple has yet again dug it’s knife further into all its competitors by releasing its FaceTime application for computers. What does this mean? Well, first it means they are shitting all over the EVO (do I have your attention Dawe? Joe?).

Ok but seriously, this shit is pretty tight and was a given that it would eventually happen when Apple revealed the FaceTime capability for its latest incarnation of the beast that is the iPhone. Why wouldn’t they release this in conjunction with the iPhone 4 launch? Because kids, this is Apple. The computer company that likes to feed you in courses, not just give you the whole meal up front. Why release this capability when you don’t need to and can still sell an absolute shit-ton of phones? Release it 4 months later, garner even more interest in the phone (especially right before it comes to Verizon), while at the same time garnering interest in your computers as well seeing as how you can only do it from an Apple computer. Genius. Complete asshole maneuver, but genius.

This application gives you the ability to video chat with someone from your iPhone 4 with someone on a Mac or vice versa via an email address. The application doesn’t need to be open on your Mac for you to be available. When someone “calls” you, the app pops up in your dock and you accept the invitation and voila, you can now have video phone sex. Now you don’t have to wait for all your friends to get an iPhone 4 to take advantage of FaceTime, if they have a Mac, you’re good to go.

Yes, I know Android guys, you can only do it from Wi-Fi blah, blah, blah. But as I said above, this is merely the first, er, second course of FaceTime that Apple is feeding us. I’m sure once AT&T or the cell phone networks in general get their act together and feel that they can handle the traffic of millions of people video chatting on their networks they will release it. It is a smart move to NOT make it 3G capable right now as I’m sure it would bog down and possibly shut down an entire network. And don’t gimme that 4G bullshit either all you Sprint fuckers, cause my phone will still be faster than yours on 3G.

You can download the beta version of FaceTime on Apples website, just make sure your computer has the latest OS, Snow Leopard.

Oh bee-tee-dubs, if you have Windows, fuck your life.

Flocka!

Posted by dLux On October - 21 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

Enough is enough. Yesterday, MTV took it upon themselves to name this guy the #8 hottest MC in the game right now. Really? Behind Ludacris at #10 and B.o.B. at #9, with Lil’ Wayne being announced #7 today.

What the fuck is wrong with people? When I was DJing at UCF for tailgating I could not believe how many requests I got for this guy. No, I will not play “No Hands”. Why? Because that shit is garbage, case closed. Yes, I will play “Hard In The Paint”, but it will be my remix with different lyrics, sorry BRO. The closest thing you will get from me is the “Oh Let’s Overdo It” A-Trak remix because it is incredible.

I refused to even bootleg this guys album but after his #8 placement, and me deciding that I needed to voice my asshole opinion on this “rapper” I took to the interwebz and downloaded his debut, Flockaveli.

One word basically sums it up real nice…well, maybe two for some extra umph:  fucking awful.

Easily the best thing about this album is that there are about 10 Lex Luger beats. Luger, the MONSTER of a producer responsible for some of the best beats this year including Rick Ross’ “MC Hammer” & “B.M.F.”, and Flockas own “Hard In The Paint” is definitely carving a name our for himself in the rap game. Easily putting himself up there with the Drumma Boys and Shawty Redds with his own form of signature beats with that horror movie type edge. This kid will not be going anywhere anytime soon that’s for sure.

Now, back to hating. This guys album is atrocious. Just the same loud-ass rhyme style on every track, no vocal range whatsoever and if I have to hear him say “FLOCKA!” one more time I’m really going to get T.O.’d. I swear at the end of the first track for the last 45 seconds dude is just going “waka flocka, waka flocka, waka flocka, pow pow pow” the ENTIRE time.

One thing to keep in mind when wondering how this guy got put on so quickly is that his Mom is the owner of So Icey Entertainment, Gucci Manes old record label. I’m sure that didn’t hurt when shopping his records around to radio stations and what-not.

Where does this guy have the audacity to name his album after one of the best Tupac albums of all-time, let alone arguably one of best albums of all-time period? You aren’t even in the same lane Mr. Flame, sorry.

But I mean what do I know? This is coming from the guy who is eagerly anticipating the new Soulja Boy album, has been listening to the new Gucci Mane album non-stop since its release, and probably has more than a few other questionable tastes when it comes to “quality” rap music today.

I will say one thing, I did not like OJ Da Juiceman at first but he grew on me after time. Who is to say that Waka will not do the same? I wouldn’t say I will listen to him as much as his mentor Gucci, but in due time I may be able to handle doses of it more willingly than I do now. This is only his first album so hopefully he progresses into something better than what he is right now, which is dog shit on a silver platter.

Waka Flocka Flames debut album, Flockaveli, is available for download all over the internet for free.

Ain’t I?

Posted by dLux On October - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Damn Clifford, what happened bruh bruh? You almost had us fooled that you were back on the right track. You did a million hours of community service, you had that STUPID fucking show on MTV, you went and talked to the kids to tell them basically not to be you, and then you had to go and fuck it up…again. Not only were you blowing presidential in your Maybach, but you were also popping the yoppers AND sippin’ lean? All over an illegal U-Turn at a red-light? You couldn’t wait? As the analysts on Monday Night Football would say…

First thing: Why the FUCK are you driving your own Maybach? You spend all that money on a car like that and you can’t get one of your ‘potnas’ to drive it for you? Isn’t that why people buy those cars, to sit in the back seat?

Second: You KNOW what you have in the car. Blunts flying around, poppin’ ecstasy like the Big Tymers, and pouring more codeine syrup in the car than Texas rap in 2005. So why make an illegal U-Turn let alone one during a red light?! Wait for the light to turn the color of what you’re smoking before you try to be slick.

Whoops.

This will be the second album in a row that T.I. will be putting out and not able to promote because he will be locked up. I’m sure Atlantic records is more than thrilled that their poster boy has fucked them in the ass yet again. Or will it help him? His last horrible album Paper Trail did go platinum while he was locked up thanks to those awesome pop singles “Life Your Life”, “Whatever You Like”, “Dead and Gone”, and “My Life Your Entertainment”.

Like I said, he really almost had me thinking he was back on track to putting out some solid album material. The tracks he has released lately and the remixes he has jumped on have just been flat out incredible and reminiscent of the old T.I. we use to know, or should I say T.I.P.? From “Pledge Alligance To The Swag” with Rick Ross, “Tangerine” with Big Boi, “Bet I” with his recent cash cow of an artist, B.o.B., to even the softer songs like “Make Up Bag” with The Dream, the guy has been putting out solid material as of late. When I heard his comeback single “I’m Back”, just the production alone let me know that he was trying to go back to the gritty style that he came up on. One thing is for sure: there are/were definitely no lawyers telling him what he can and can’t put out as far as musical content to tarnish his image/case.

Now you’re fucked, going back to jail for 11 months, possibly 6-8 (which is what will most likely happen) only to come out and start “fresh” yet again. How you only got 11 months for violating your probation after being arrested for having more guns than my Call of Duty classes is beyond me, I’m still trying to figure out how your ass got out of jail in the first place.

T.I.’s new album, King Uncaged, comes out Nevuary 32nd.

Blocktoberfest: The UCF Massive is here

Posted by bartpardy On October - 19 - 2010 1 COMMENT

With 5 only five days to go, the UCF area is getting ready for the biggest block party the area has ever seen.

Throughout the years the corner of Alafaya and University has seen its share of block parties. Everything from live local bands, to pool parties have happened in the legendary Fubar parking lot, but there has NEVER been national talent showcased on such a large scale.

Busta Rhymes is a hip-hop legend. The most idiosyncratic personality in rap and possessor of its most recognizable delivery, a halting, ragga-inspired style with incredible complexity, inventiveness, and humor, Busta Rhymes formed Leaders of the New School in 1990 and released two albums with the group before breaking out with a 1996 solo hit single, “Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check.” Since then he has had a ton of major radio hits, including his latest, the remix version to “All I Do is Win” By DJ Khaled…. which brings us to our next artist.

The Miami-based DJ/producer DJ Khaled — a Palestinian-American born Khaled Khaled — is a member of Fat Joe‘s Terror Squad and released Listennn: The Album on Koch in June 2006. He utilized his connections to snare the likes of Beanie Sigel, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Paul Wall, Young Jeezy, Slim Thug, Trick Daddy, and Clipse for guest appearances. Many were back for his 2007 effort We the Best and in 2008 for We Global. The thematic Victory followed in 2010 with the MASSIVE single “All I Do is Win”, which has peoples hands in the air at clubs all across the world as it climbs to the top of the Billboard chart.

Blocktoberfest also features local support from the world famous DJ Magic Mike, as well as local crowd favorite DJ Docta Dawe.

Here is all the info you need:

WHAT: Blocktoberfest, Fubar’s 1 year anniversary party with Busta Rhymes, DJ Khaled, and DJ Magic Mike. Local support from Docta Dawe, Dave Maltaise, DJ Jonny Quest.

WHERE: Fubar Parking Lot on the corner of Alafaya Trail and University Boulevard.

WHEN: SATURDAY OCTOBER 23rd 2010.

Guess who has a new EP coming to you October 19th?

When I woke up this morning I was VERY excited to see the update to Bassnectar’s homepage on his website (bassnectar.net). “Wildstyle” will be released on the 19th of  this month like I said, so don’t let time slip by and forget that there is some super dirty goodness ready to download and enjoy. From what I heard in the Sample nectar left for us to dissect, this is exactly the direction I was hoping he would go with his music (Staying original as fuck while increasing the wobble).

What do you think of this new track? I am inclined to wonder what your opinions are Floridians!

The Social Network

Posted by dLux On October - 5 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

First and foremost, I hate PG-13 movies. Especially ones that easily could have been rated R and been that much better, but this movie easily gets a pass. I get it, you make the movie PG-13 to make more money in the theaters so its more accessible to the under 17 crowd. If you’re under 17 and don’t know any strategies on how to get into a rated R movie you just need to step your game up.

What can be said about this movie that nearly every critic has not already said? The movie is just incredible, straight up. When I saw the preview for it this summer, I was immediately hooked. I then saw that David Fincher was directing it and that was the ringer for me. Fincher, a man of MANY classics such as Seven, The Game, Fight Club, has done it yet again with this movie bringing his dark, grainy signature look to a movie about the biggest internet phenomenon of our generation, Facebook.

The movie is extremely dialogue heavy and you really need to pay attention to grasp everything that is going on but once you get the initial gist of it, you just do not want the movie to end nor do you know when or how it is going to do so.

One thing I found very interesting about the movie is the fact or fiction aspect of it. This is NOT the true story of how Facebook came to be, merely bits and pieces of it with fiction thrown in to add that flare that makes the movie interesting. Some names are the names of the real people involved, and some are not. Case in point, Justin Timberlake plays Sean Parker, the founder of Napster. Truth is, the founder of Napster was Shawn Fanning. Why his name was changed in the movie and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerburgs name was actually used is a mystery (I actually never looked it up to see why but feel free to look it up and comment. Some blogger I am, eh?) but I would imagine he didn’t want his name to be used. Was Shawn Fanning even involved in the early development of Facebook? Or was that just added in by famed wrtier Aaron Sorkin for depth? Fanning was the internet “it” kid for a while, single-handedly changing the music business forever with one computer program, so why not throw him in there? All in all the movie is just a home run of monumental proportions and I will for sure be buying it when it comes out.

As the movie started, my friend Zack and I saw on the opening credits that Trent Reznor, of Nine Inch Nails fame, and Atticus Ross, famed music producer and right hand man to Reznor, handled the score themselves. I found that to be very interesting and paid closer attention to the score than I normally would. Absolutely phenomenal is the only way to describe it. I am listening to it right now as I am typing this blog and this would be my second g0-round listening to it today. If you ever listened to the Fight Club soundtrack, a masterpiece put together by The Dust Brothers and took a liking to it, you will love this soundtrack. Only available in digital format for the time being, it is the perfect midday music to listen to while doing stuff around the house, or possibly even having some hot sex after a drunken night, the possibilities are endless. One thing is for sure, the score is the perfect compliment to Finchers visuals and Sorkins writing. Go see this movie immediately if you have not done so already, it is worth every bit of the $10.

Tramp Stamp 2010?

Posted by dLux On October - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Alright ladies (and some guys pathetically), enough is enough. We all remember back in I’d say early 2002 when EVERY girl you knew was getting their first tattoo and chose that perfect spot that went so well with their low rise jeans right above their asscrack to get that oh-so-cute tribal, butterfly, quote, whatever tattoo. The beauty of these tattoos is that they seemed to be dead giveaways for sluts open-minded girls. All you had to do was look around at all the girls sitting in a barstool, their shirt creeping up their back with a g-string poking out and if you see that tribal symbol with the butterfly in the middle there was a good chance you could take that girl home to fuck her talk about her tattoos in more detail. Now now, this isn’t true for ALL girls so don’t go commenting on this blog calling me an asshole because you have one of those tattoos, that’s your own fault, we were all 16 once.

Since most of those girls now have grown up and probably hate going to the beach/pool/anywhere because there is a good chance they are going to see someone else with a tattoo in the same spot (and possibly the same design), where can they get a tattoo now and be ahead of the curve? The answer: rib cage!!

Don’t kid yourself ladies (and guys too), you know you have been racking your brain thinking of something original that you can get inked on your side because its “so hot”. My question is this: is this the Tramp Stamp of 2010, or is this really a non-regrettable thing that you will always like? Time will tell I suppose.

Usually I would just be an asshole and tell all the girls to stop while they are ahead because you are already behind if you don’t have one already, but the more and more of these tattoos I see, I have to say they are quite attractive if pulled off the right way IE: the girls personality goes with the tattoo, originality, the work on the tattoo, etc. Ironically, not one but both of my ex-girlfriends have had side tattoos and the first one had it since I met her in 2005 so she was WAY ahead of the curve (stars on the side), the second being Miss Kaypee with her Snake tattoo that was went with all her other tattoos as she had forms of royalty in many different cultures all over her body (+1 originality). I have got to hand it to the people that get these tattoos: you are tough motherfuckers, I would most likely just cry and look like this lady. I can’t even imagine getting it colored in, that ink is literally going into your ribs and I’m sure that shit hurts more than listening to Lil’ Waynes Rebirth album front-to-back.

(Megan Fox is so fucking hot its ridiculous, eh?)

The question now is: what isn’t just overused by everyone? Quotes? Custom designs? Flowers? Google “rib cage tattoos” and you will find out that stars are by far the clear front-runner in the unoriginal category. But once again, in my opinion, if pulled off on the right girl, can still look hot as fuck. One thing is for sure: all the tattoo artists love it because it gives them an excuse to have a girl hold her bare breast for however long it takes to finish the tattoo and you know eventually you girls are just going to say fuck it and let him see the glory (or possible disgrace) that is your boobs.

Is the rib cage tattoo the new age Tramp Stamp?

freshmuhfucknsqueezebitchoccstyle

Were back with lots more fresh, un-squeezed beats for you to lose yourself in :)

Alright, time to break out the juicer and serve you our freshest Squeeze yet.

Weezy has brought us “Im not a human being” which has already topped the Itunes charts as soon as it was exposed to the people of the internet. From what I have gathered, a good amount of the tracks on this EP were mean’t to be released the day Lil Wayne is released from Prison in November on the Carter IV. Apparently IV was so strong and solid, fresh material that Lil Wayne decided to give his fans a taste of what we have been waiting for, and of course get our hopes up for IV’s release. Personally I just hope he strays away from his new “Rock/Pop” sound and sticks to what we all know he does best. I have more stuff to show you so ill leave you with one track that caught my ears, the rest is out there for your discovering pleasure.

Fresh"est" Pick.

KID KAIO released this track a few weeks back, but I have only recently started seeing rumors of this young Netherlands producer around some of my favorite blogs. I can only assume after all the positive feedback he has been given from his listeners the talk of him collaborating with Mad Decent is true(Diplo specifically…? I can dig it). You will like this if you enjoy hard repetitive synth’s and feel like hearing something that will get your blood pumped up and bouncing around like you just took out a whole 16 oz jar of chocolate covered espresso beans. Seriously some of the most entertaining, bouncy, but not so wobbly drops. You can listen to it as you please though. Keep an eye on this guy if you enjoy this noise, I can see this guy getting some tracks featured in the future after I dug through his Soundcloud.

KID KAIO FT BUIZA – BROADWAY by Kid Kaio

After mentioning Mad Decent & Diplo, I wanted to make sure you had a chance to checkout the re-cap of the 2010 Mad Decent Block Parties across the USA. This video was edited AWESOME and is very easy on the senses. Take 6 minutes out of your busy day and see what could of been, if Orlando even had something close to this big of a following for this label(VIBIN). Not to worry, the end of 2010 has many surprises approaching quickly (to say the very least).
