What is the best way to honor a legend? Well top rated Atlanta, Georgia DJ Anthony D decided to honor the late great DJ AM in a very unique way. He created a tribute DJ mix: “Ah Yeah! A DJ AM Tribute”.
Now you may ask, “Why the hell would I want to hear another DJ who wants to be like AM? Aren’t they a dime a dozen?”. Well, its because this guy actually got it right. I have heard a few AM “Tribute Mixes” but this one is the cream of the crop. Anthony D replicates some of AM’s legendary routines himself (including the extremely difficult “Wonderwall” routine), and then blends them seamlessly together. AM had a creative mind like no other, but sometimes his set wasn’t the most fluid in the world…. this mix takes the best from this legend and blends it together perfectly!!

The “new” formula seems on point:
White kid? Check.
From somewhere other than L.A. or New York? Check.
Early 20s? Check.
In college? Check.
Outsell top hip-hop artists like Lil’ Wayne and DJ Khaled? …Umm. Check.
Makin’ almost as much noise as March 17th, Boston‘s own Samuel Adams Wisner – known as Wiz or Sam Adams – has been representing Beantown HARD. The 22-year-old has been pushing his own brand of hip-hop meets electric meets whateverthehell he wants…and he is getting noticed. Big time.
The Trinity College senior – and soccer team captain – not only puts up a 3.0 GPA but is putting up impressive sales online and in the streets right now. Throughout this summer he has held spots within the top 100 Billboard Singles and in the top 20 Heatseekers Songs. He sold 5,000 copies of his single “Tab Open” with zero promotions and zero marketing – a month before his Boston’s Boy EP was released. That’s some serious noise.
Boston’s Boy is a mix of numerous flavors, and contrasting the slow, haunting piano melodies on “Just Love Here” against the uptempo synth-and-drum heavy “Coast 2 Coast” – reminiscent of Shwayze – definitely put this brew at the top of the line. Boston’s Boy features production credits from Oren Yoel (from Asher Roth fame), DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill), Grammy Award-winning producer Maestro, and prolific hip-hop producer, Nottz. Nottz’ track, “Fly Jets over Boston” features 2009 XXL Top-10 Freshman Curren$y.
I hate college, but love all the parties / finishing kegs and crushing bottles of Bacardi
King of the Class, I’d rather lay up with a hottie / single doesn’t mean I’m lookin for somebody…
- “I Hate College”
He got his first taste of success with his “I Hate College Remix”, which quickly catapulted him to hordes of Facebook fans and Twitter followers. Those that have kept up with him have been treated so some of best new sounds in hip-hop; and now he’s back with more. His upcoming release, Party Records (co-hosted by DJ Whoo Kid and DJ Cash), has already garnered severe attention, and such, he’s dropped the first single, “Hold On,” produced by none other than Rusko.
Be on the lookout for some serious sounds from Sam Adams, and keep it locked on OrangeCountyConcepts.com; always bringing you the freshest juice for your headphones.

In case you weren’t on ANY sort of social networking site Sunday Night or Monday Morning then you may have not known that MTV held their annual Video Music Awards Sunday Night in Los Angeles.
All in all I thought the show was a VAST improvement from last year. You could actually see they decided to put some money back into the show as the stage set was just fucking sick and the production value just seemed better compared to shows from the past few years.
As you can see from the photo above, everyones favorite “sell out” DJ, deadmau5, was the house DJ for the evening. This guys stage setup was unprecedented, full LED DJ booth accompanied by the baddest mau5 head yet, also with LEDs on the outside of the head, all synced perfectly to whatever track was playing at the moment. Mr. Mau5 took a lot of heat from the hype.m/indie/he-use-to-be-our-DJ crowd for taking the gig at the Satan of all music disposals, MTV, but if that’s what selling out looks like, please sign me right up.
Now that I have given some props, let’s fire-up the asshole engine!! For all that was good about this show, there were definitely plenty of things to point out and make fun of, like this guy…
That is your Best New Artist for 2010, and he LIP-SYNCED his performance. Some ‘artist’, eh? Now, I know (not personally) that singing and choreography are 2 very tough things to pull off but why even wear a mic around your face? After hearing this kids voice in his acceptance speech there is only one thing left to say about Bieber-fever: this kids balls dropping are going to ruin his career.
Following Biebers performance, the next man on deck was his ‘mentor’ according to him, Usher.
Now this guy just took it to another level on the lip syncing, at least Bieber kind of moved his lips while he was dancing. Usher just flat out stopped moving his mouth mid-performance and let the voice track just play over him dancing on what looked like an oversized CDJ on the stage.
Now, enough of all these ‘artists’ showing off their dance skills and non-singing voices, let’s get to something that is literally carrying MTV on its back single-handedly. You guessed it, those fucking guidos that everyone loves (myself included), Jersey Shore.
The Situation, Pauly D, Snooki and Jwoww made their appearance appropriately from a hot tub erected on stage for Chelsea Handler to come sit in while wearing her black dress only to get out of the hot tub pregnant.
2 questions about this segment: Where was Ronnie, Sammie, Vinny, or Angelina? I don’t even think Angelina was on the red white carpet but the other 3 for sure were as you can find their pictures on MTV.com.
Second question: is it just me or is Snooki now one of the hippos that The Situation has talked about in an episode from this season? Homegirl has definitely been eating good since she has been getting a paycheck thats for sure, eh?
Now before we go onto what I feel was the best performance of the night, let’s talk about the domination one artist had over the entire ceremony, Lady Gaga.
Clearly she didn’t have PETA in mind when she picked out this dress from one of her multiple dresses of the evening. Gaga ended up taking home a whopping 8 Moon Men for the night, cleaning up on the competition with ease.
Now, here’s something to think about: is anybody even fucking with this bitch when it comes to production value put into her videos? It’s kind of a no brainer that this lady was going to clean house in whatever category she was nominated in when you have the powerhouse that is Interscope Records in your corner. Sure, she also shares the label with Mr. Marshall Mathers but he isn’t going for shock value or groundbreaking stuff in his videos, he is merely trying to let you know that he is “Not Afraid” and he “Loves the Way You Lie”. In this YouTube/World Star Hip Hop/OnSmash/Straight-to-the-net video age, it doesn’t really pay off to take half, if not all of your advance from the label to put out an expensive video to have it premiere after Jersey Shore, then only get airplay on MTV at 3am.
After Gaga accepted her final Moon Man for the night, everyone eagerly awaited for, what I believe, was the performance of the evening and easily the most anticipated.
Kanye West.
Hate him, or love him, the guy has been putting out just stellar tracks ever since he started his G.O.O.D. Friday series 3 weeks ago. This VMA performance was Kanyes redemption for his Hennessy inspired rant last year during Taylor Swifts acceptance speech for which he ODB’d the stage and said Beyonce should have won.
Fully equipped with an MPC and a suit fit for Satan himself, Kanye was the perfect ending to this years VMAs, asking to have a toast for the douchebags, assholes, scumbags, and jerkoffs (there were plenty of them in the building so he did a great job of covering all the bases) with his new song “Runaway”. To cap it all off, he brings out his latest signee, Pusha T, one half of The Clipse to spit a verse which was a nice surprise. Kanye set Twitter ablaze after his performance as everyone was making toasts to the assholes with the #letshaveatoast trending topic and frantically looking for a CDQ version of the track. Incase you are still looking for this track, we here at OCC have got you covered.

So as I said at the beginning of this blog, good show besides a couple lip syncing guys. Only one thing missing: Where was the Video Vanguard Award this year? Kinda tough when nobody puts out consistently good videos back-to-back-to-back I guess? I suppose they’ll just say fuck it and give it to Gaga next year.

Bassnectar aka Lorin Ashton is simply a genius nomad of electronic music, always combining different genres and producing a wide clusterfuck of enraging beats that are not only heavy in nature, but rooted with such emotion that its practically impossible to see him live and not let your the music take control of your body. He will be performing at House of Blues in Orlando, FL on the 18th of September. This week!! Get your tickets now at ticketmaster.com
His remix of “Where is my mind” by “The Pixies” has been an internet sensation, posted on all kinds of music blogs all over the world and toping the hype machine charts numerous weeks. This is a sick remix if you haven’t heard it yet. They should have used this version at the end of Fight Club.

Our friends at Phantom Status & Smile for Camera are bringing some fresh noise to East Orlando this 22nd of September(a few of us at OCC have been extremely excited about this event, mind you). Designer Drugs (Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson) local’s of the very hip East Village in New York City are packing up their gear, and making their way down to the brand new Blue Moon 504 Ultra Lounge . In my opinion this will be a REAL test on Blue Moon’s top of the line audio equipment, I am growing impatient for this event since I found out about this booking.

I have been slacking on the remixing of late so I decided to fire the Ableton Live back up and get to work. I have been playing dLux’s remix of “Pretty Boy Swag” a lot lately, but decided it might be time to switch it up, and of course add a little dirty dutch flavor. I gave this remix the Docta treatment, even added some original synths in there! Check it out, lemme know what you think.
The above picture has no relevance to this track whatsoever, except it was taken at Fubar Thursday, which is INSANE every week with 1,000 people. I debuted this track tonight in front of that crowd and got a unanimous fist pump.
