Whats poppin tonight

Posted by Matt Phillips On March - 31 - 2009 3 COMMENTS

Tonight, LA’s own, DJ Serafin joins us back in Orlando for one of the hottest “One off” events of the new year.

Turntable Invasion with your resident DJ, 19sixty and special guest DJ Deville.

 *Knight Library* $2 Pitchers…$2 Shots…$2 Double Drinks til mid-knight!

You just got back from WMC in Miami, you have your nice tan from laying out and hitting up those pool parties each day, why not come out and show it off? What a perfect way to end a weekend from Heaven.

Honestly, tonight, Library is the place to be. Nights brought to you by 19sixty have currently been killing the rest of the night club scene in East Orlando. Along with his Wednesday night @ Knight Library, he is quickly turning around the “outting” scene into one of the best in years. Be at Library tonight and I promise you wont be disappointed.

Once you are done partying it up tonight @ Library, make sure to get right back up and do it again tomorrow for Where to be Wednesdays with 19Sixty. This is the best party on a Wednesday night, hands down. No questions asked. Do not pass go, do not collect $100.

Crazy Drink specials! Do not miss this night , trust me. Where else can you get free bottled beer until midnight? Srsly.

My personal battle with Testicular Cancer…

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 29 - 2009 3 COMMENTS

As many of you know I have been undergoing some personal health issues that have sidelined me. I want to make everyone aware of it, not so that you know what my situation is, but so that maybe I can make you aware of an often ignored or undetected situation. I know this is a entertainment/music/nightlife blog, but I feel it is my duty to use all my available resources to raise awareness to this situation, mostly because it affects the age demographic that reads this blog. I don’t mean to be a buzz kill, but one off topic blog out of the hundreds on this site won’t kill you, hopefully it might actually save a life.

This has been a very personal issue to me, but I have decided not to be shy about it. Not because it isn’t incredibly emotional or personal to me, but because this is bigger than my feelings. I had something happen to me this month that often goes undetected, or ignored, out of embarrassment or worry. I wasn’t sure how to deal with the situation that I was presented. I told my friends and business associates, and then made a few mentions about my condition over facebook, but I now feel it is time to be completely candid.

I am talking about my personal battle with testicular cancer. During 2009 there will be 8,980 young men diagnosed and over 360 young men will die because they didn’t find it in time. I am one of the survivors. That is more deaths than women in this age group who will die of breast cancer. But don’t let those statistics frighten you, testicular cancer is one of the easiest cancers to cure if it is detected in time.  There is a stigma and embarrassment connected with young men becoming more aware of their testicles. I am very fortunate that I noticed swelling in one of mine, and acted on it immediately. Symptoms are not the same for everyone, I had swelling, but that is not always the case. That is why a monthly exam is essential.

There is a very simple, painless, quick exam that you can give yourself once a month that could save your life. You can find the very simple instructions right here:

http://www.tc-cancer.com/about/self-exam.html

Think you might forget to do this on a monthly basis? You can sign up to receive a reminder the first of every month to do a self-exam. Sign up by sending a blank email to: menstuff-testicular-exam-subscribe@topica.com It’s free! Waiting and hoping will not fix anything, if you notice an abnormality, see a doctor as soon as possible, because when this is caught early you have a 95%-100% cure rate awaiting you.

Now please enjoy what may be the best PSA I have ever seen.

ShamWow that, Bitch!

Posted by Matt Phillips On March - 29 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

Meet Vince Shlomi. He’s probably better known to you as the ShamWow Guy, the ubiquitous television pitchman who has been phenomenally successful peddling absorbent towels and food choppers. Shlomi, 44, was arrested last month on a felony battery charge following a violent confrontation with a prostitute in his South Beach hotel room. According to an arrest affidavit, Shlomi met Sasha Harris, 26, at a Miami Beach nightclub on February 7 and subsequently retired with her to his $750 room at the lavish Setai hotel. Shlomi told cops he paid Harris about $1000 in cash after she “propositioned him for straight sex.” Shlomi said that when he kissed Harris, she suddenly “bit his tongue and would not let go.” Shlomi then punched Harris several times until she released his tongue. The affidavit notes that during the 4 AM fight Harris sustained facial fractures and lacerations all over her face (she is pictured here in mug shots snapped following busts in 2008 and 2005). After freeing his tongue, a bleeding Shlomi ran to the Setai lobby, where security summoned cops. Harris refused to cooperate with officers, who recovered $930 from her purse. “Both parties had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from their persons,” police reported.

In a brief telephone interview, Harris declined to answer TSG questions about her run-in with Shlomi, though she did say she is considering a lawsuit against the pitchman. Asked if she worked as a hooker, Harris declined comment. As seen in the below mug shot, Shlomi was also injured during the fracas and, court records show, was treated at Mount Sinai Medical Center. While Shlomi and Harris were both arrested for felony aggravated battery, prosecutors this month declined to file formal charges against the combatants. Police records list Shlomi’s occupation as “Marketing,” but make no mention of his affiliation with the ShamWow or the Slap Chop, both of which sell for $19.95 (plus shipping and handling)

DAY SEVEN. FINAL DAY OF WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE IN MIAMI 2009.

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 29 - 2009 1 COMMENT

Sigh. Its all over after today. I didn’t even get to go to WMC this year and even I am disappointed. I feel like I have been living the WMC life through this weeks blog series and don’t want it to end!! This has been the best WMC year in history according to this Yahoo! news article. Yes, WMC is so big now it is making major news right next to the space shuttle, and President Obama. Word is the Fools Gold Party was INSANE last night!! I want to see pics bad! Someone, please leave a pic in the comment section or something, or even better a video! Today as conference comes to an end there as still a decent amount of “closing” parties to hit, if you still have the strength. Most are featuring mainstream artists, and are presented by large venues, so our eclectic indie electro OCC taste has been a little tainted with today’s recommendations, but don’t fret, these parties will probably be a relief after hearing hardcore rave electro all week. Time for some smooth poolside house music beats.

Paris Hilton vs Steve Angello last night @ Fontainebleau

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 28 - 2009 6 COMMENTS

parissteve.jpg

So word on the streets is it went down last night at Fontainebleau… Paris Hilton interrupted Steve Angello’s set and asked him to play something different. E! online is claiming she wanted more “danceable techno” like “Daft Punk or Bob Sinclair”, but pretty much everyone else is saying she asked for Steve Angello to play Hip-Hop at a WMC party. Looks like E! is just kissing some Paris ass. Another site says she asked for “Black Eyed Peas or Madonna” If that is true, which I am sure it is, someone please ship this bitch off to a different planet. Here is where the story gets good… After the request someone assaulted someone, who did what is pretty much one word against another…

The people on Paris Hilton’s side are saying Steve Angello’s bodyguard shoved Paris, which prompted a furious Doug Reinhardt (Paris’s man flavor of the week) to tell the man not to touch his lady. Then an all out fight broke out in the booth. The other side (which pretty much everyone believes) is that Hilton told her bodyguard to punch Steve Angello for not playing the music she wanted.

David Guetta also witnessed the incident, and disputes Hilton’s version of events, “Her security punched him for refusing to play what she wanted. That’s what all the witnesses saw.”

“Steve plays dance music, he just doesn’t play hip hop. He politely refused Hilton’s requests but she got more and more agitated, and it escalated pretty quickly. Out of nowhere one of her security guards smacked Steve in the face,” the Angello camp insists.

“Steve is a quiet guy, but he had to act in self defense and fought back. He started pounding on the guy and it suddenly turned into a full scale fight in the DJ booth,” according to the DJ’s version of events.

I am relieved Steve Angello didn’t fold under the pressure to play the garbage this spoiled bitch wanted to hear. That entire club was there to see Steve Angello, and hear his track selection, not DJ Paris. Please may Paris Hilton go away forever now, at very least please leave us alone during WMC, or if you must go please stay at the Crooklyn Clan/DJ AM parties, thanks.

DAY FIVE OF WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE IN MIAMI 2009!!

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 27 - 2009 6 COMMENTS

miami.jpg

Ok, so we were so busy partying we missed a few days of this series!! (or having surgery in my case) but either way lets get back to business. Its Friday night of WMC, this thing is full force underway and tonight is going to be HUGE. As some of you know I missed STEREO Miami (and Orlando) because of some health concerns, which I will touch on later in the week when WMC is behind us. There are so many major events tonight it is hard to talk about them all, so I will just highlight my top four for the night. Lets put it this way, if your walking on Collins or Washington today, its going to be hard NOT to find a bangin’ ass party.

ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL

What is WMC without Ultra Music Festival? Today is day one and it is filled with an unbelievable list of talent. Its a bit pricey, and personally, I like the hunt of seeing most of the artists playing Ultra in smaller venues throughout WMC week but there is no doubt that this is the best way to see all the acts you want in one place. Ultra also has been locking in more exclusive performances this year (Tiesto, Bloc Party, Carl Cox, Deadmau5, Santigold, Rabbit In The Moon, BT Live) making this one of the most unavoidable Ultra’s to date if you expect to catch all the artists you want to see. To me, this day is worth it just for Deadmau5. If you have any question to that you can refer to dLux’s blog from a few days back.Talent:  Tiesto (Exclusive), Black Eyed Peas (Exclusive), Bloc Party (Exclusive), Carl Cox (Exclusive), David Guetta, Pendulum Live (Exclusive), Deadmau5 (Exclusive), Santigold (Exclusive), Roni Size Reprazent (Exclusive), The Ting Tings (Exclusive), Rabbit In The Moon (Exclusive), Swedish House Mafia (Featuring Steve Angello, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso), Benny Benassi, Richie Hawtin, Steve Lawler, Tiga, Luciano, BT Live (Exclusive), Shiny Toy Guns (Exclusive), Dirty South, Sneaky Sound System, Perry Farrell, Busy P, Loco Dice, Josh Wink, Chris Lake, The Whip Live (Exclusive), Mar T, Kevens, Rye Rye, Una Slim, Tini, RiotGeaR, Patrick M, Clayton Steele, Natalia Suvorova, and many more…
Venue:  Bicentennial Park
Address:  1075 Biscayne Boulevard
Time:  4:00 PM
Presented by:  Ultra Music Festival
Admission:  Two-day General Admission is $129.95 (before taxes and fees); 2-day VIP is $350.00 (before taxes and fees). Single Day General Admission is $89.95 (before taxes and fees) and Single Day VIP admission is $250.00 (before taxes and fees).
WMC Badge Policy:   As the Official closing Event of WMC2009, general admission is free with WMC Badge.
Details:  Winter Music Conference and Ultra Music Festival have partnered once again for the 2009 event. With more than 200 artists/djs/producers, 70,000 music fans from all 50 states and more than 50 countries, Ultra Music Festival is world renowned and widely recognized as the most influential EDM event of its kind.

DAY TWO OF WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE IN MIAMI 2009!!

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 24 - 2009 1 COMMENT

Day two of WMC is here and the parties are starting to pick up!! Today is still not jam packed with events but come tomorrow and especially Thursday this thing will be 100% underway. Tomorrow stands out as the real kick off of WMC with tons of huge events but we will touch more on that later…

I want to quickly mention, but not highlight “Project Mayhem’s WMC Industry Social Year 5″ party at Jazid. I went to this party the last few years and it is a bunch of fun. Being that it’s mostly beaksbeats, and features a lot of Orlando locals I don’t wanna get into this one too much, because this week long blog series is about the acts you can’t see in Orlando. Either way, check this out for a second tonight. It features Slyde, Plaza De Funk, DJ X, Jenn Lasher, Urban J, MCR, Emily Play & Devine, Slip187 and a bunch of others – 7:00 PM – 5:00 AM @ Jazid 1342 Washington Avenue.

The next three events really speak for themselves!

First event is Major WMC @ The Electric Pickle [formerly circa 28]. I want to see DJ Falcon. Period. He has worked hand and hand with Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk for many years and has a knack for making an infectious disco loop a hot track (Think “Together”, “So Much Love To Give”, “Call On Me remix”). French house music is at it’s best right here, before there was a Justice, there was DJ Falcon and Thomas Bangalter. This party also features Dadalife, Junior Sanchez, Stretch Armstrong, Jay-You, Lauren Flax, Danny Daze, D.Ysh, Inbal Lankry, Lazaro Casanova, Eli Escobar, Blu Jemz, Dan Oh, Red Foxx, Lloydsky, Discotech, De signer, Thee Mike B and more.

Major WMC Tuesday Mar 24th at 10:00PM
Venue:  The Electric Pickle [formerly circa 28]
Address:  2826 N Miami Avenue
Time:  10:00 PM
Presented by:  Karmaloop, Poplife
Admission:  $15.00
Details:  $10.00 advances with RSVP to major.plur@gmail.com

The night is still young, lets hit the next party!! Loose Morals @ Dolce. This party has a very nice line-up of new generation indie electro DJs. Its hard to pick a DJ to highlight for this party, Le Castle Vania, Treasure Fingers, Nadastrom, AC Slater, Bart B More, and Classixx are all favorites of mine and most of them have been featured on this blog at one time or another. Anyways, this party is gonna be dope and you definitely should not miss it. Get your fists ready because they are gonna be pumping!

Traffic Events presents Loose Morals @ Dolce
Tuesday Mar 24th at 10:00PM
Mattie Safer of The Rapture DJs, Le Castle Vania, Treasure Fingers, Nadastrom, AC Slater, Mickey Factz, Bart B More, Classixx, Eli Smith, Anthony Atalla, Jessica Who, and more TBA.
Venue:  Dolce
Address:  15th Street and Ocean Drive
Time:  10:00 PM
Presented by:  Traffic Events & Madflower Creative Group
Admission:  $20
WMC Badge Policy:   $10
Details:  Loose Morals – Day 1 will showcase the latest in Electro and Mash-up with Mattie Safer of The Rapture DJs, Atlanta based DJ and production phenoms Le Castle Vania and Treasure Fingers, and more TBA
Email:  TrafficEvents@gmail.com

Finally on our must hit party list for day two of conference is this massive all-star line-up at Mansion. Most people attending WMC like to avoid Mansion because of the long lines, extremely high cover charges, and gweetos with excessive use of LA Looks in their slicked back doos but this one might be worth those headaches. Mansion <3′s Electro features Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris (dj set), The Bloody Beetroots and more.

DAY ONE OF WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE MIAMI 2009!!

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 23 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Today is day one of WMC 2009 Miami!! WMC always gets off to a slow start and the today the parties are still kind of slim pickings, but don’t worry, by the end of the week you will be completely out of energy, hungover, and sunburned!

There is really only one party that stands out tonight, and that is
Underground Collective @ Feelgood (formerly know as Blue). This isn’t a night filled with “bangers” or heavy electro rave anthems, its more of a chill soulful house music sound, to get you ready for a relaxing Monday night in Miami. This party features legendary Los Angeles house DJ Marques Wyatt (http://www.myspace.com/marqueswyatt). This guy has a unique soulful sound that is not to be missed, truly a pioneer, Marques Wyatt has been spinning house music since the mid-1980′s. His weekly Sunday night party “Deep” in LA is MASSIVE (http://www.deep-la.com), running 10 years strong with thousands in attendance every week, he is LA house music. If you are lucky enough to start your Miami vacation today, this is where you need to be.

How did this do such a good job at slipping under the radar?? Seriously, who ever is promoting this needs to get some flyers out in East Orlando because I haven’t heard shit about this!! This party is gonna be crazyyyy!!! EVERYBODY loves LMFAO right now… they have just dominated the vocal hip-hop electro scene, and brought the whole sound to the masses. If you are planning on leaving your house this week, do it tonight, for this. I know your still trying to recover for the weekend, or save for WMC/spring break, but this is worth it.

OCC is WMC

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 22 - 2009 1 COMMENT

We are going to Miami!! If you are taking the trip to Miami, and your from the OC, this is your best bet finding where the parties at!! The Winter Music Conference is a week long event, held every March in South Florida. The event is attended by a who’s who of the music industry and DJ scene. It is a sought-after place to network, premiere tracks and showcase skills. It is affiliated with Ultra Music Festival as well. If you don’t know, then you are just plain out of the loop. The great thing about WMC is you have to opportunity to see DJ and acts that would never come through our beloved Orlando. We will be listing all the parties that are a MUST day by day throughout the week.

This year Orange County Concepts is in full effect in Miami for the Winter Music Conference hosting its very own event “STEREO in Miami” Thursday, March 26th at Automatic Slims. Here is more info on this weeks party:

Best Nightclub Promotional Video Ever (almost)

Posted by Brian 'Docta' Dawe On March - 21 - 2009 1 COMMENT

In the spirit of my pudding wrestling video from last week, I present to you this video brought to you by Notorious Nastie and Rev Miami. They are putting on some party in Miami at ps14 (Where I was SUPPOSED to play on March 27th before I was sidelined by the TC). btw, I will be missing WMC this year because of that and I am miserable.
